One Day Behind

Description
The music is a direct attempt at doing a early '70's Glam Rock tune.

I had the music done several weeks ago. But, I was getting way to busy with work projects and things like that. That's how the lyrics came about, always a day behind in getting anything done. I wrote those a week ago and finally was able to put down the vocals last night.

One Day Behind

sometimes I forget what day it is
seems my brain isn't wired that way
sometimes I forget the plans I made
I could catch up if this was yesterday
I am one day behind
I am taking my time

ch:
time, time, time is escaping me
fine, fine, line where's eternity
I me mine I'm wasting my time
time, time, time is escaping me

one day behind maybe a week late
maybe it's not important after all
if I start my life all over again
maybe this time I'ld be a day ahead
I am one day behind
I am wasting my time

ch:
time, time, time is escaping me
fine, fine, line where's eternity
I me mine I 'm wasting my time
time, time, time is escaping me

I guess I'll take it the way it is
I'll chalk it up to my laziness
time just seems to fade away
I could catch up if this was yesterday
I am one day behind
I am taking my time

Thanks Feter
The twin slide guitar work, on the second guitar i play a harmony line up a third. It was done alot back in the '70's. like UFO, Queen, Thin Lizzy, Wishbone Ash and others.

Thanks again Feter

I don't know why I bother...
..aiming for 'firsties' anymore, with Feter around...

Does the Internet pass through his living room, or what?

Ed
Ed Hannifin said 3218 days ago (July 5th, 2008)
I think...
...this is one of my favorites among your lyrics...

It may, as always, be my headphones more than anything, but if you're aiming for glam (and of course that covers quite a bit of teritory), then I think I could stand to have either another dB of vocal, or maybe a little more space around the vocal, so it's forward... Whether it be 'Moonage Daydream' or 'Bang A Gong', having that vocal, and the personality that goes with it, out front and center, is sort of key to what I always heard in the glam sound...On my listening gear, the vocal could stand to leap out of the massed guitars just a little more...

I'm also thinking that it would be neat to anchor the treble of the guitars with a sort of meatier, grittier, (humbucking?) rhythm guitar in there... in a low midrange register, maybe... I keep thinking I hear one in there, so maybe what I'm asking for is for a little low grit to come forward, maybe spread wide in the stereo field with the higher guitars up the middle...

Nits taken care of, I'll get back to how much I like the song, which is a lot... Good vocal delivery, neat Chuck-Berry-filtered-through-Bolan-and-Big-Star solo(s)... Great drive...

Ed
Vic Holman said 3218 days ago (July 5th, 2008)
Thanks Ed
to answer your first question..... Feter IS the internet.

I get what your saying. I should have used my SG on some tracks for the lower grit. good point. Originally I had the vocals up, but got a bit self conscience i guess or maybe i got to use to them. Thanks for being a second set of ears.

Cool track Vic
Love the solo tone - all round good post (as usual). Could have cranked the Schecter up a bit for my taste, but what would you have expected ;)

Good lyrics, well sung and played - yeah Ed may be right in that the vocals could come up a bit - especially noticeable to me in the final harmonised bit.

You mean you work AND do this!?

Cheers,
Neil

Either the internet begins
or ends in Mr. Feters place. He's always first! But hey I couldn't think of a nicer guy to be first.

As usual Vic this is stellar in a 70's kinda way. Really great. Will have to listen with the phones shortly.

Hey Neil
well i got to pay for this equipment somehow (check out my artist page. I posted a photo of most of my guitars)

Okay, so this morning I did go back and boosted all the vocals and the bass, beefed some lower end to the backing guitars. See, I listen, but I doubt if I'll repost it any time soon.

KILLER!
Incredible is what I really just heard. AMAZING work here Mr. Vic and really something that left me speechless. Killer guitar work, the vocals at its best and the whole composition is totally grand and pro.

I guess I should agree with Ejh and Jig about the mixing, it's great but just the vocals could come up a bit as the solos in the background taking place louder a little bit and for the bass.... YES as I'm a big fan of your bass tone and playing.

Thanks for such a killer track, enjoyed it!

Eighthies!!
Vic, I've always wanted to be eighth... The internet runs about a mile from my house, so it takes a little time to even get in the top ten commentators.

I am glamming this song very much. What can one say?... Another Vic hit download for the "Victrola."

cheers and thanks

Great post Vicar!

Geez,,,who among us can't identify with these lyrics? ...And you bring the message home with fabulous guitar-slinging throughout.

I'm gonna have to get me one of them "flappy picks"!

Be well bro!

..and not to mention a short nap time.

True, I figured a lot of people could identify with this.

Usually I use a harder pick. but flappy ones are fine as well.

Beautiful guitar work. Got love clapping.

Great
retro sound - I grew up listening to Bolan and Bowie and this would have fitted in nicely too. Only heard this through the iMac speakers so can't really judge whether this has enough bass 'grunt' as they have no bass. Good song anyway!

70s
you definitely achieved that 70s vibe with this tune. classic rock gtr tones. 70s, almost 60s, gtr soloing - very well done.

nice vocals too. i wasn't paying too much attention to the lyrics this first pass, but may i just say your voice reminds me a bit of colin hay. (that's a big compliment, in my books.) thanks for sharing!

It's kind fun in figuring out harmony lines. I was inspired by how Mick Ronson, George Harrison and Brian May would compose them. When doing slide guitar harmonies it really fills out the sound. I also separate them opposite of each other.

Great stuff
I love the sentiment (sounds all too familiar!) and the delivery is great. I love the guitars on this. as always. I really think the genius of your mixing is your ability to find room for all the instruments to breathe. You have so much going on, but nothing is ever buried or mashed together in a sonic mess (I think 'mashed together' is the technical term, isn't it?). Brilliant stuff. Love the solo (and the solo sound) in particular. Very cool. Nicely done. Peace.

mashed together
... that's what I call it as well. It just takes practice and some patience to wedgy (another techy term) everything in. I find dropping levels on parts of tracks better then trying to boost other parts.

Glam!
I used to love Mott the Hoople, thought I still have no idea what that name means.

Great tune. Those whole chorusses of distorted guitars sound great.

Say, you clearly know your was around guitar production. Why does your bass sound intelligible while playing a stream of identical eighth notes? I hear too many songs on this site where such a bass part just becomes a big drone that only clutters up the mix. Mind divulging your secret?
