Wake Me Up (original version)

Description
The original version of a song that I rerecorded punk style for the CBGB thing. This version was recorded with Todd Moritz in his basement studio in Portland, OR. Finished at home in SF, CA. Todd plays drums, organ, mellotron and sings great harmony vocals. I finished it up recently and am gonna bookend an album with the 2 versions of this song. Written about some long nights in the Dawson Street Pub in Philadelphia.

Lyrics
All this waiting, all this time - won't amount to anything at all
I'm slowly fading, close my eyes - with nothing but the floor to break my fall

All this wonder, all this wine - in a room so dark it makes it hard to see
where's my memory? where's my mind, and why's this headache hanging on to me?

wake me up - I'm going down I always get back up
shake me up - I know I don't deserve this kind of love
keep me holding on - and give me something I can lean upon

All my memories, all my life - is just a dream, it comes as some surprise
I'm slowly fading, close my eyes - if I should fall before I start to rise -

then wake me up - I'm going down I always get back up
shake me up - I know I don't deserve this kind of love
to keep from falling down - just gimme something I can wrap around

and wake me up - I'm going down i always get back up
shake me up - I know I don't deserve this kind of love
and if I have to choose - then gimme something I can stand to lose

Sounds very much like the Eagles to me
Great track Brian with awesome arranging, powerful vocals and fantastic lyrics. This ones going on my iPod and in my favorites my friend.

This is one of the best I've heard here, or anywhere for that matter my friend, Kudos to you Big Time.

When does the tour start?
Now that you have a drummer, which sounds great by the way, you're on your way to a full on rock band.

Thanks for the tune Brian. As always great performance and arrangement.

Brian
you sure can write a pop song, this kind of reminds me of the Hudson Brothers (who were under rated). can't believe you're able to get all of this out of GB. are you using drum loops? they sound great. sounds like a band, a good band. thanks for sharing.

Do you mean the "we're gonna razzle dazzle you" hudson brothers of TV fame? I didn't know they made serious albums. I'll have to search. It's real drums on this one. Todd (the drummer) lives in Portland and I wish I could use him more, but he's pretty busy and it isn't always possible. I just happened to be visiting and we tracked this (he plays keys and sings harmony too)

thanks for listening!

Slick pop/rock tune
Careful now. You are gonna drive the young ladies crazy with this song. I really enjoyed everything about this song. You have a great voice with a lot of range. A good ear for composition, tasty guitar work, good introduction on the organ and the drums sounded like a real drummer who was very good. Congrats!
