I posted a Remastered version of this the other day, and promptly pull it off because of some horrendous mixing errors in it. So here we go again, with the remastered, remaster, only this time it's a very much different mix where less is more and more is great. (I Hope)

So lets try this again shall we. All suggestions and comments are, as always, welcome and appreciated.

I'm not sure what I was in a former life, except maybe a broke musician. I've got that one down pat don't ya know.

I like the way this one sounds, it's much better than the last one, but I can see I've run the course on using the original master and trying to enhance it. The only way I'm really gonna get this one up to really Pro standards is to make a completely new version and not use anything from the original. that's the next step, but I think I'll let it rest for a while and move on to something else.

admit that I don't always pay attention to song lyrics,but I ALWAYS read yours.I really like the funny twists you write into your songs.These lyrics remind me a bit of "Dixie Chicken" by Little Feat.Great singing as usual and excellent guitar work.This should be a hit song on the radio!

Oh that it could be so. (hit song on the radio)

When I write lyrics I try to tell a story that either makes sense, or at the very least gets a chuckle. I've always felt that you can't entertain people if they don't connect in some way with the message you're sending either musically or lyrically. It's the most important part of writing a song to my mind.

Even when you listen to classical music, other than Opera, the music is delivering an emotional message. That was the genius of the master, was their ability to elicit an emotional response with just the music they wrote and played.

Since I'm no master, I have to resort to words to convey the messages I want people to get. So it better be good, or funny, or both. Unfortunately, my work doesn't always succeed, but every once in a while even I can get it right. This one is humorous, and that works for me.

Glad you enjoyed the song my friend. Thanks you again for listening and for your kind words, they are appreciated.

Really glad you enjoyed the song as it is now. The previous version was way over the top which is why I pulled it. But even this one has some problems that I plan to fix at some future date.

I almost forgot
... to find something to critique! I mean, what's not to like about this song?

Excellent stuff! Just the kind of country music I have always loved (and will always love).

Of course, here you open with the chorus. Nothing wrong with that (do it pretty frequently myself), but it isn't the "typical" or "preferred" approach, right? But hey ... what do "THEY" know? : )

Being somewhat of a purist, I really wanted to hear a rhyme on line 4 (chorus) that matched line 2 ... or maybe an internal rhyme somewhere ... something more for the ear than lines 1 and 4 repeating. The song doesn't need it ... the music, lyric, and vocal all are done so well that the chorus "works" without that traditional rhyme scheme, but yeah ... I still wanted it ... maybe even lines 2 and 3 rhyming with 1 and 4 standing as they are?

Never mind what I wanted, though ... truthfully, I wouldn't change a thing. This is a great tune and I sure did enjoy giving it a listen!

Picky, picky, picky. (lol) ;-)
Actually, I like picky people who take the time to offer up some great suggestions like you do John. But in this case I think I'll leave the lyrics alone, and concentrate on getting the music right.

So I've decided that I've taken the original master as far as I can, and that I need to do a completely new recording of the vocals and lead parts and eliminate the original master from the mix to fix this one right. But not right now.

For now it stands on it's own merrits and I won't do any more on it until I make a completely new recording of all the parts at a later date.

Thanks for coming back to listen to this one John, I really appreciate your input. Reviews like this are very helpful, especially when working on lyrics for future projects.

Great song!!

Love the way you've set this up - top lyrics - and other stuff I've forgotten to write down ;)

I have to ask - what's you and what's loops? If it's a looped backing, you've done a pretty seamless job of it. If you played it yourself ..... big congratulations on the guitar work in particular. Your voice is just perfect for this.

I seem to be wearing my "drum critic" hat today - to me, the drum loop (now I KNOW you didn't play them) seems to be a bit repetitive - the cymbal work doesn't feel quite right to me either. Most noticeable is the ride(?) in the RH channel during the solo.

Can't explain any more about the drums - forgot what I was saying.

Just take a deep breath Noel and it'll all come back to you, I promise. ;-)

About the guitar parts, two is all me and the other two are a series of loops. The lead part and one of the rhythm parts that have the slight overdrive / distortion is what I played, and especially in the lead break. The acoustic rhythm guitar in one ear, most prominent in the verses is a loop, and the chunky telecaster kind of fill rhythm in the intro, chorus and ending is a loop.

Having to do with the drums, I programmed them on my SY99 Yamaha in 1992 and reworked them a bit on this try in Logic. So in a way, I did play the drums, just not all that well. I must have missed that ride cymbal slipping over to the right channel some how. God I hate it when that happens, gave the whole illusion away. ;-)

When I redo this song completely, where I'm not using any of the old tracks I'll redo the drums to, but that's gonna be a while before I get to that.

Funny thing about Buck Owens, I used to love doing some of his stuff when I was doing Country in the early years, from 65 through about 68. One I still like to do is "Act Naturally", and it tickled me to no end when he and Ringo Starr got together to do a remake back in 1989.

This was intended as a tongue in cheek look at a guy who doesn't know when to quit, so I wanted to use this play on words to get the point across. And of course it wasn't supposed to be a sad song, so I upped the ante by driving the song hard and putting it up wet.

Hey, I just thought about that. Exactly what do you mean when you say I'm bad, hmmmmm ? ;-)

If I had any idea who to send it to, It would be on it's way as we speak, but alas I know not of these things. But your right about the Big bad outlaw revival. Other than Toby Keith and Travis Tritt, who else is there that fits the bill now days. Waylon's gone, Willie's taking it easy, and Hank Jr. is on a respirator. (Not really)

Anyway, glad you thought well of the song and got my ego all out of control with the cool comments. (I'll get even, you know I will)

Glad you dropped in for a listen and enjoyed this blast from the past.

The reason you don't hear much Country music like this anymore is that most of the old time Writers and Producers have either retired or have moved on to the whatever lies beyond the vail. The new ones working in the business now have grown up listening to a lot of Rock and other stuff so the music they do has those influences mix in with Country. That's not all bad mind you, but it's not the same.

There are still some of us around that want to do this stuff and you'll find a few here on MacJams lurking in the shadows. Enjoy them while you can my friend, when they're all gone, they're gone.

Problem is it's Radio Ready.

1st and 2nd Vocals nested about perfectly.
Genuine Touch and attitude.
Really good Dynamic Range.

As a preference, I would have "let the boys loose" a little more at the break, but that's merely preference.

Fun song
Country music meets high-tech. Like the twangy country sound and the references to RAM. A very unique combination, that put a smile on my face. Unusual mix of track recordings that you manage to combine into a song with good results. Nice work.

I please you enjoyed the song, and took time to send along the kind words. It's one of my old songs from the 90's that I reworked in the digital environment. Originally done on 8 track, I used that demo and supplemented with some new track to fill it out and try to build a little heat and energy into it.
