Description
A piano improvisation session gone 'EVP' (Bryn...did you have something to do with this??). Actually, thanks goes to Bryn for listening and helping me figure out a couple of spots. You're a continual inspiration and a great friend, B! :-)

This is another in my series of "Once upon a time," songs that are meant to engage the listener's imagination and tell a story...

Thanks, too, to the freesound project (http://www.freesound.org/), a great bank of sounds, particularly:
sandocho: music box
harri: creaky door
monterey2000: garden chimes
zeroline: children's laughter

a spectre's tale
is it Brian Eno having a bad hair day (ANY hair day?)? ANYWAY - mysti, this is wonderful - such a gift you have. This is so creative, whimsical, weird, gorgeous, creepy, haunting - let's see, what else? And the Fitch cello - wow! Great work cat - thanks!

adjectives!!
Thanks for the nice words, Karen :)
That Fitch cello is a lot of fun to use, especially when you want a more somber tone!

rain drops...
I really like how you described the piano: 'lingery rain drops piano sound.'
I added a touch of delay/echo to get that effect, and I'm glad you noticed.
"Lingering" is one of the ways I wanted this to sound.
Thanks for the kind comments, Feter :)

A Spectre's Tale
Psychological deep composition, a mysterious and dense track. I like the unique choice of sounds, which works very well. Thanks for a thrilling piece of music full of tension!!

Spooky
Which made me think of the book I am reading at the moment. I rather think this is the main theme of the soundtrack to the upcoming movie ;-) It is Diane Setterfield's The Thirteenth Tale from 2006. If you like Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights and dark libraries and eerie twin children and... this is a must read. (I'm only halfway in it but it's so well written I'd be surprised if she messes things up at the end...)

Another great piece from you that landed in my iTunes MacJams library. I just checked and noticed that you're in at least 70 of my 572 downloads ;-) So BIG THANKS for all your great music!

thank you :)
I used to choose the music I'd listen to while reading or drawing very carefully. It was always cool when I found music that matched the mood of what I was doing, so I appreciate this comment :)
I love music and art that spurs the imagination, so I suppose that's part of the reason that enjoy creating music like this.
Thanks again for leaving a comment!

a spectrres's tale
Very creepy love the piano and a great mix of sounds to fire my imagination.
I really enjoyed the listen. What this brings to my imagination is this... The Pic is of the Evil Woman that kidnapped the child laughing in the music.
perhaps the child has been kidnapped and the person holding her is an evil person but as the child is innocent -she cannot know this
And the music is a way of letting the listener be aware of all the evil that is yet to come. Or the child is playing with her dolls in her bedroom laughing and giggling and the new nanny has plans
maybe a bit of thunder and lightening as its always raining heavy or very dark when bad things are about to take place on T V films I have watched most of the time that is. I think so . Just my opinion.

Always starts off a really Happy Beautiful Sunny day then the dark deeds are always done at night or during really bad wheather mainly.

Just a thought for your later one's perhaps. :)

Peace Dee.

Thank you, Dee!
It's cool to hear what you've heard in this piece. My own imaginings were less sinister--though maybe using the word 'spectre' in the title leans it more towards 'scary' and 'creepy!'

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and impressions here :)

is it just me?
I don't find anything creepy here at all. Interesting piano melody and I really liked all the background effected noises a lot!

Thanks, Vic!
Myself... I was thinking more mysterious and haunting, less creepy. Kind of like when you stand in an old abandoned house and try to imagine what it was like when there were people and sounds and 'life' in it. Echoes from a past long gone....

Thanks for letting me know that you liked this one :)

Well done
Lovely composition. the opening kind of reminded me of "the Shining" but the rest of the song made me think of "the Sixth Sense" More poignant than scary, as if someone was haunted by memories of the past.

I found this
to be an extremely relaxing piece - slowed me down (not that I'm fast to start with). Exquisite listen - I love the restrained sound effects, it would have been very easy to go over the top with them.
Cheers
Len

Ghostly Frosting
This so reminds me of "The Shining"...
Wonderfully mysterious and dissonant changes with sprinkles of ghostly frosting dripping off the edges.... delicious....
Excellent grey and out of focus images... chilling....
