Jim Jim...
Filled to the brim with talent. Everything you do has so much "touch" to it. This is another fine example.

Thanks for sharing!

I'm Sorry
For the 10's. I know you want people to vote to give you "real" feedback, but I really am, honestly. This song just reminds me so well why I admired you so deeply when I first joined here. You seemed like an untouchable superstar to me, but listening to it now, so much of your genuineness and open generosity and sweet nature (even though I know you're probably cursing me for saying it) is apparent in the music and your performance. I'm crazy about this song and have to say I'm especially loving the banjo. You've helped me develop a soft spot for that instrument over the years.

I guess...
I don't really mind the 10s all that much, I guess. I would be surprised if it was to everybody's taste, though. I'm not looking to improve this, it's just something from my history. It was something that I did with my friends one afternoon and my buddy Brian Doser recorded it. I worked a lot with Brian and I learned a lot from him about recording. This is probably a good indication of how well Kris sings, since she sings along with my odd phrasing pretty well here.

But....I was thinking of doing a new version of it, but it'll be a whole new recording and probably be totally different. Maybe techno instead of old-time, who knows! BTW, classifying this as Alternative Rock is my idea of a joke!

very cool
excellent instrumentation! great recording and mix too. fine job on the banj. i've got one, but i don't even know what to tune it to! (i just tune it kinda like the top strings of a guitar.) the song reminds me a little of blue rodeo... that's meant as a compliment. thanks for sharing!

banjo tuning
You can tune a banjo however you like, it really doesn't matter, since you can tuna fish but you can't tuna banjo. ba-dum-bump!
On this tune I used a C modal tuning with capo, tuned from low to high C-G-C-D with the fifth string tuned to high G. The most common banjo tuning is open G: D-G-B-D with a high G so this is an easy tuning to drop into.
Thanks for the compliment!

This is great
A lovely song, with great lyrics, and some lovely instrumentation. For me, though, the real beauty of this is in the vocal - really nice singing, with real emotion and warmth, and perhaps most importantly, strength. Very cool. Thanks for sharing this. Peace.

wow very cool tune. I've been a fan of Kris for a long time now, so it's very cool to hear her on this! And I just love all your stuff and admire how easily you move between genres - folk, country, pop and rock. Love the banjo in this. Great tune. Thanks for digging this out and sharing it!

Kris
Is a dear friend, though I haven't seen her much in the past years due to her heavy touring schedule and the fact that she moved out to Western Mass. Do you have her new one, Shotgun Singer? She just keeps getting better and better, but her latest is the best, definitely.
If you're as big a fan as me you probably have this page bookmarked: http://krisdelmhorst.com/ but for those that don't, there ya go!

Great!
I love how this song starts! I wish I could play the banjo. The lyrics are poignant and rich. Amazing vox! This is a great song. Thanks for making it available to us! My first download of the day.

banjo
The hardest part about playing the banjo is being able to stand the cacaphony. The second hardest part is the banjo player jokes: "Know how to tell when the stage is level? When the banjo player drools from both sides of his mouth."

No really, it's not too hard. When I recorded this I had been playing maybe 6 months. I got this banjo at a yard sale. I don't know what possessed me, I'd been playing guitar for years and all of a sudden I became known as a banjo player.

Thanks for the compliment!

Yeehaw!
I picked up my guitar and started chicken pickin' - couldn't resist!. You really got a nice feel going here. Your voice sounds great in this song also. Another great song. I agree with the Pete Seeger reference.

Very enjoyable Jim
Great "back porch" sound. Must have been fun to do. Excellent playing all round and a good example of your unadorned musicianship.

Thanks,
Neil
