Description
This is a song I wrote in 1976. When I was playing with our band I could not come up with a suitable orchestration for it, so it remained a song I sang privately just to remember and grieve.
In 1976 I met a girl and fell instantly in love. We spent much of the first part of the year hanging out together, doing things. The only problem was that she didn't fall in love in the least. She wanted my company but not my love.
Being my first real love it was "all in" for me and when I realized that she wasn't even close to "all in" it hurt very much. She became uncomfortable and slowly stopped having anything to do with me.
Many of us have been there. That entire summer everything I did reminded me of this girl, the things we did, and the pain that followed was often difficult to take.
About the song:
There are four guitar tracks on this. Three of them are finger picked. Because I don't have a 12 string two of the tracks are picked with the guitar detuned to resemble the alternate string on a 12 string. These are not MIDI tracks. These are real guitar painstakingly played to be as tight as possible with the original track. If you listen carefully you can hear a few slight misses.
There are two vocal tracks. The primary vocal track is backed on the choruses: "And these things...". The backing track is sung purposefully to sound "anguished" or dissident.
The bass is entered with the pencil and the drums are from Drums on Demand.
If anyone is interested in trying a better vocal for this I'd be glad to have some help. My range is just so terrible. I'm also open to sound and mix suggestions.
Thanks in advance!

Lyrics
Memory - MRH 1976
Have you ever had a memory
so good that hurt
And every time to tried to dry your tears
you rubbed in more dirt
And those things you wanted to do
That will never be done
while at the time
They seemed like so much fun.
And every little tiny thing you do
brings this memory back to you
And you try so hard to forget
but its very hard to do
And those things you wanted to do
That will never be done
while at the time
They seemed like so much fun.
Have you ever had a memory
so good that hurt
And every time to tried to dry your tears
you rubbed in more dirt
And those things you wanted to do
That will never be done
while at the time
They seemed like so much fun.
And every little tiny thing you do
brings this memory back to you
And you try so hard to forget
but its very hard to do
And those things you wanted to do
That will never be done
while at the time
They seemed like so much fun.

Aww never mind Mark you still got me :) I can hear you sound a bit gutted on this one too . It's understandable though.
Guitar's sound good.
Peace Dee.
