Description
I stumbled across the guitar sound that runs through the verses on this while I was working on michael2's Caroline Knows for the MJ Cover Challenge, and it reminded me of this song - an oldie from a couple of years back that I never properly recorded. So here it is. It's about as straight ahead as it gets, but hopefully not boring.

Enjoy.

Peace.

Lyrics
You Are Here
Wait for dark
Wasting daylight
I guess it’s good but it just don’t feel right

Satellite
Evil eye
It’s not the truth and it’s not a lie

And now you're lost
And your heart is burning
Another shot and you'll disappear
You close your eyes and the whole room turns
But it's all right
If you are here

Be yourself
Don’t go crazy
Take a stand
You might amaze me

Say you feel it
Say you care
Be yourself if you dare

You’re crazy and confused
You’ve been hurt and you’ve been used
Yeah you’re hanging by a thread now
Whatcha gonna do?

Tell the truth
It’ll free you
Never lie unless they see you
Honest
Faithful
Poor and good
You know you’re not
But you think you should

Straight-ahead
but enjoyable all the same. Good guitar work and nice work on mixing those vocals.

Thanks, man
Yep, this is very much a 'no surprises' kind of track, but I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the nod on the vocal mixing; this was really one of the trickiest things about the song, and it was tricky to get it right. Glad you noticed. Thanks for stopping by to check it out. Cheers. Peace.

Glad you liked it. It's just a 2 and a half minute distraction, but I enjoyed recording it. Thanks for stopping by to check it out. Much appreciated. Cheers. Peace.

Definitely Dajama
I think the whole song turns on the line:" it's all right, if you are here", which is sung beautifully and is solid musically and poetically. I also like the little satellite verse. Good to hear an earlier evolution of your sound; enjoyed it.

Thanks Joe
Glad to hear it sounds distinctive; I take that as high praise! This is one of those songs that could well have disappeared off the hard drive, but I thought I'd give it one more shot because of that guitar sound, which to my ears was something the song had been missing in earlier attempts to record it. Thanks for stopping by. Great to see you here. Cheers. Peace.

Cool twists

Happy you enjoyed it. The melody on this is pretty straightforward, I think, as is the whole song really, but I tried to sneak some subtlety in there! Glad you liked the vocal, too; took a while to get the mix right. Thanks for stopping by and taking the time. Much appreciated. Cheers. Peace.

This song just
oozes class. Love the way it rocks along. Great bass and (of course) guitars and I like all the little bits and pieces of other instruments. Lovely vocal and harmonies. Pro production.
Cheers

You're too kind, but I'm delighted you enjoyed it. The guitar sound was key to this, I think. You might be interested to know that I snuck in a bit of the old recording. Just after the first chorus, there's a short guitar section, which is actually an acoustic guitar messed up with software effects and made to sound like an electric. This was actually in the original recording of this I did years back, and it was recorded through a Sony digital mic plugged into a MiniDisc player (kind of as amp) and then into iMic. I was listening to the original recording and i thought it sounded decent enough so I left it! Glad you enjoyed this. Loved your latest, by the way. Cheers. Peace.

Happy you enjoyed this. It's straight ahead for sure - one of those tracks that came out of a E-A riff (the riff got lost in the shuffle) and then chugged along from there. I had fun doing it, and I may have to dig through the dumpster more often to see what else I can find. Thanks for checking this out. Much appreciated. Cheers. Peace.

Agree...
...with other comments - a good solid song (that has a hint of Talking Heads for me) that is well written, played and recorded. Nice guitar solo when it comes in (and out quickly!). By the end the chorus hook is pretty much in you head and you're singing along - a good sign!

nice one
i love the straight ahead feel to this one. nice change going into the chorus too. love the line "you're crazy and confused." great guitar sound on that chorus, all of the electric stuff sounds perfect over the acoustic.

I'm glad you like the guitar sounds, and glad you think the electric and acoustic blend well together. This is one of those songs that just kicks in, does its thing, and exits stage left. I'm glad I came back to it and gave it this treatment, and I'm happy you enjoyed it. Thanks for stopping by and checking it out. Cheers, man. Peace.

Excellent, like all your music
You have such a great feel for a rocking pop song... I enjoy your lyrics, your sounds, your vocals, your arrangement, your playing, the rhythm tracks, the vibe of the song... You've got everything covered with excellence. And it all comes across as completely effortless, which I know it isn't...

In short, you, sir, have great skill, and it's a pleasure to listen to your music.

Thank you, my friend
Very kind words, and I appreciate it. Interesting point about the effort. Some of the tracks I've done that (in my opinion) have come across as pretty direct have often been the hardest to pin down. I guess the point is that the effort shouldn't show! I'm delighted you stopped by to check this out and very happy you liked it. Many thanks. Cheers. Peace.

could of been......
........ a song by the cars. if it had muted clean electrics. funny how that can happen, huh?

I like what you did David. the groove moves right along. And that was a slick guitar solo. Vocal & vocal harmonies really shine as well.

Just what I needed.

Just what you needed
The Cars - cool! When I first picked up a guitar as a teenager (when AC/DC were the epitome of rock and roll and Pink Floyd represented the music of the spheres) I had a neighbor - an older guy (in my mind, that is - he was probably younger than I am now...!) - who played guitar and he offered to show me a few chords. He asked me who my favorite guitar band was, and I said AC/DC (of course!) and he said his was The Cars. I thought he was out of his mind, and it took me years to get how clever those guys were. High praise. Glad you enjoyed it. Cheers, man. Peace.

Great hook
This song has a very strong Tom Petty chorus (at least to me). I agree with Vic Holman on the Talking Heads, too. But this has a serious dajama sound coming through. I love your vocal work. It sounds like you're skeptical when you sing, which I think is cool. And I'm not talking about your performance. It's hard to describe, but one of my favorite things about your tunes nonetheless.

Very happy you enjoyed this one. Interesting point about the singing and the vibe; this song in particular has, I think, a skeptical element to it, with perhaps even a hint of cynicism in some of the words, and I wonder if that didn't seep through into the vocals. I'm glad you found it interesting. Thanks for checking this out. Much appreciated as always. Cheers. Peace.

Like the lyrics and the back tracks are clean, uncluttered and sound very good. In other words, great mix on a very good song my friend. Thanks for sharing this one.

'unrolls itself" - what a cool description! Yep, this just gets up and goes (or at least that was the plan) and it's short just because that's all there was to it, basically. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for stopping by to check it out. Much appreciated. Cheers, man. Peace.
