Description
This past August, as I walked around the State Fair, wondering which deep-fried delicacy I would try next, the germ of this song came into my head, emerging from nowhere. If you're not familiar with State Fairs, just imagine tens of thousands of people walking around all day pulling their kids behind them in wagons, eating delicious but coronary-inducing food on a stick, listening to music, marveling at giant pumpkins and humongous pigs, going on head-spinning rides (because your kids dare you to), and watching fireworks - all in the sticky heat of late Summer. It's more fun than it sounds, actually. How all that led to this, I'll never know. But there it is.
It took a while to mould it into this, but one thing I knew it needed early on was a roof-lifting guitar solo, the kind that I can't really do! Then Micheal and I were talking about working on something, and a bell went off in my head. A matter of a couple of days later (man, that guy works fast!) I got this solo back, and it knocked my socks off. What excited me most about it (apart from the beautifully searing tone, the rocking dynamics, and the magnificent playing!) was the fact that it was exactly what I had in mind. Now, that's magic!
Thanks, again, Mike for doing this, and kudos. As I knew you would, you knocked it out of the park.
Enjoy.
Peace.
David

Lyrics
Trapdoor
I don’t know how it started but I ended up standing
At the foot of a staircase in the back of my room
I ascended with caution to the star-speckled ceiling
I opened the trap door and climbed out of my life
I found myself standing on the roof of my world
On a street in a city where I’d never been
And I was surrounded by a pitiful chorus singing
‘This is the life’
As they wandered dumbfounded by sorrow and pain
The sky was an answer and my hand was a key
And the faces were questions and all looking at me
I laid in the penthouse and I lied in the street
Ignoring the old ones as they cried
Maybe you know what I mean when I say
Man, I think I’ve seen the road that lies ahead
And maybe it’s an everyday parade to you
But I’ve gotta say it almost wrecked my head
Well there might be a star in the palm of my hand
A spirit in dreamtime making a man
There might be a turtle swimming through space
A world on his back and a smile on his face
A chorus of angels dreaming of sin
Dancing a jig on the head of a pin
There might be an old man counting us down
Or maybe just counting us out
And maybe the stars are just holes in the sky
The rest of the world just a ghost in your eye
And maybe the mind is a fever gone wild
A chemical ego on trial
Well, I stood on the roof in the cold light of noon
Counting the stars and the suns and the moons
And I suddenly knew I was ready to go
‘Cos honey I’d rather not know
I descended with caution and I got my feet on the floor
I gathered my spirits and I walked to the door
And I found myself standing in the heart of my world
On a street in a city where I’ve never been
I don’t know how it started but I ended up standing
At the foot of a staircase in the back of my room

As are all your songs. Excellent vocals - great mix and a soaring solo from Mike.
