The One with Henri Rogers and Elevator Funk

Description
Well... here is yet another version of The One. I had this up for collaboration and Henri ( http://www.macjams.com/artist/HenriROGERsoloandbands ) and Brian
( http://www.macjams.com/artist/Elevator_Funk ) graciously took the time to supply me with some great tracks. Henri on piano and Brian on lead guitar. Thank you guys, it was a pleasure working with you, and you took this song to another level entirely.

There is another collaboration yet to be released and hopefully it will come together soon, as schedules of the other artists allow. I think they might have a hard time following this one, although the 2 other artists involved with the version yet to come are every bit as talented as these two.

Thanks to all who visit and listen.
Peace
Guy

Lyrics
The weekend is over and it went by way to fast
and it seems to take forever for five lonely days to pass
The telephone is ringin and I'm feelin way to blue
and I'm not pickin up girl cause I know that it's you
I start thinkin bout all those things I left undone
and thats when I start to wonder if I was ever meant to be the one...
Chorus
The one who holds you late at night
The one who calms the fear inside
The one who holds you oh so tight
The one who you run to when there's no place left to hide... left to hide
Solo
I know that in my past I've ignored responsibility
I've been runnin around in circles and it's finally catchin up with me
Sometimes I get so scared of what the future holds
I want us to be together girl so we can share our souls
But there's so many people who don't think that this love should be
ya but they will never know what you mean to me
Chorus
Outro
The telephone is still ringin and I'm feelin way to blue
I can't bring myself to answer it cause I know who it is I know it's you .. ya you

This is definitely the best version! It sounds really good with the changes and the addition of the other two talented musicians. Great job

Sweet.....
This is pretty cool. It's fun to listen to each different version and see how it evolved. I think I could get the taste for collaborating. Thanks for letting me be a part of it. It's quite a privilege to be in the mix with a pro like Henri. Three different countries, I believe... Canada, France and USA.... Awesome!

It is...
very cool indeed. I am amazed how musicians now can network and create via the internet. Thanks again Brian you actually started this collab idea with a comment you left on the first one. I too have a taste for the collab now lol.

I'm very glad to be part of this collab .
It's quite interesting to hear what we did without any talks ,just playing what we felt would go well with the song ...
Bravo for your guitar Brian .
Very good mix Guy .

The One and the Many! lol
Wow, nice nice alt version of an already great song.

Henri and Brian really do take this up a couple of notches.

Loose feel throughout...like being performed live in a club. Love it!

Be well!
guygrooves said 403 days ago (October 19th, 2008)
Ya Micheal
it is one of the many lol good one. You are right, it has a whole different feel because of Brian and Henri. It's funny you mentioned the "club feel" I actually was trying to mix it that way. You're either Psychic or your ear is close to mine lol. Probably the latter. ;o)

I have to agree with Stevel
...it's like you're channelling the great Gene Clark (in my opinion the greatest songwriter of the 60's bar none so it's a hell of a compliment).
Simply gorgeous this song, the piano and lead have brought a great song up to truly awesome status.
This song has the kind of presence that makes you sit up and say "Oh i LOVE this one" when it forms part of a Greatest Hits compilation.
There aren't enough superlatives left for me to use here.
The power of the collab - stunning.

Paddy nice of you to say so. I am very happy you like this song so much. Thank you for the great comment. You're right about the collab it was truly a gift from Henri and Brian and they gave the song a color that was escaping me before their input.

Spectacular!
Hey Guy this is amazing! The vocals are simply amazing!

The guitars are killer good!

The only thing I didn't like was the spread of the strummed guitar more left and the lead right... Just me but I would have double tracked the strummed guitar and put it left and right and the lead more centered.

As the song went on the lead did seem to center.

But really this is GREAT and AMAZING! Cool harmonies!

Wonderful job. Downloaded and faved for sure!

Hey Mark
Thank you for the kind words an all the listens lol. You know I actually panned that guitar a bit more left on a whim on the final mix. I felt it was getting a little buried in the mix. I wish I had thought of that doubling technique. It might still get that treatment yet, as there is one more version of this to come. Just enough to make everyone roll their eyes and say "Guy move on!!" lol. Maybe they already have ha ha ha. Glad you stopped by Mark, and thanks for the thoughtful comment.

Great!
This is a great all-round tune. Particulary striking is the harmony blend in the chorus. Almost sounds effects-affected without being effects.

Well done!

Pete...
You have a finely tuned ear. I tried very hard not to have to give up my back up singers names but I think you might already know them. Mel and Dyna are very good at what they do and for a one time fee they will sing for anyone. lol I used Melodyne from Celemony for the harmonies and to pull a handful of notes back into key on the lead vocal. You have a very sharp ear. In the first versions of the song I couldn't sing the word "answer" well enough to have it fall pleasantly on the ear, and no amount of Melodyne would fix it. You do have to be able to sing reasonably well to use it effectively. I re recorded the line and it wasn't needed on the lead vox hardly at all. The harmonies are melodyne with my lead take pushed up a third and pulled down a third. Thanks for stopping by and listening, and taking the time to leave such a thoughtful comment.

Yep, another level indeed
Great collab Guy, Henri, and Brian. The additions made have really put this one on the charts as far as I'm concerned. It was a great song to begin with, but this is so much fuller and brighter. Love the mix you did on this one Guy, but then again I'm really not too surprised by that.

You all have show tremendous skill here in all aspects of the production,

Kudos to all of you, and especially you you guy for such a great song and mix.

Be well and be cool,

Ed

Just so you know, I use a couple of your songs to tune my ear while mixing some of my songs, it helped "Little Things" in particular. You are amongst a handful of artists here that have given up nuggets of wisdom with what they have posted or outright advice. You have been a good friend and a great resource for song writing, musicianship, and production. All the while being so incredibly humble. You sir are a huge asset to this site and I am always very pleased you take the time to listen to my work. Thank you my friend.

I-40, windows down...
I could listen to this type of Gram Parsons country rock tune all day, every day...makes me want to drive down I-40 with the windows down. Love the 'telephone is rining' line. Also the terrific harmonies on the last two lines...great interplay between the piano and lead guitar. Really really nice. Thanks for the DL!

and then I heard this. Man, you guys really turned a good tune into a great tune.

Hearty applause for all involved and man, thanks to the community for encouraging another go at it. What a fine group of people we have here with one thing in common - a quest for great music.

Another macjams success story for the record books.

Smashing stuff!
Hi Guy, this is a great version and its interesting to see how it's evolved with the input from Henri and Brian. Can't chose which I like best between this and version 2. Version 2 had a more edgy and raw lead guitar tone (perhaps a bit loud in the mix) whereas this version has a slightly sweeter more polished lead. The bass is clearer in this new version the mix is spot on to my ears. I'll have to keep both versions I guess!
Is there a version 4 in the pipe line? It's a great song and I'm sure others will want a piece of the action with this!
best wishes to you
Steve
