Lyrics
i should tell you
there's something kinda wrong with me
could call it a fetish, or just a
slight peculiarity
c'mon I'll explain down at the sound exchange where I can show ya why
I get off on

Black plastic
always makes makes me feel so good
black plastic
stay forever if i could
I love that black plastic

waste the day here
flippin thru the piles and stacks
anticipate the moment
when the needle hits the wax
I know its sinful
I know its wrong
just give me a little longer
so I can find more

black plastic circles inside cardboard squares
black plastic, they got more of these downstairs
there's too much black plastic

guitar solo

my folks used to think that it was kinda strange
that I bought so many records with my paper route change
but I guess it all got started way back in grade five
when i opened up the cover of Kiss Alive, Kiss Alive

black plastic, always did something for me
black plastic, automatic ecstasy

black plastic revolution in my head, yeah, yeah
black plastic revolution in my head, yeah yeah
I love that black plastic

awesome song
i know your thinking it's retro, but could also be a current indie band (think the (Raconteurs). very hooky and interesting parts You know, I worshipped Kiss ALive, but i'm hearing more Alex Chilton in this one. great song.

thanks
Very nice to get an endorsement from the great Michael2!
glad you liked. also Glad it wasn't too archaic sounding... altho Jack White is kind of a standard-bearer for retro-ness, god bless him. chilton... a total hero.

AHHHHHH!!!!!
Michael2 misunderstands... you're tellign your story listening to the worst band in the world!!! In the 70s as a teenage kid I hated Kiss with the same passion I reserved for Disco. Still do. I thought their music degraded rock, turned it into something for kids... which it did, and it was. This makes perfect sense to me and sheds new light--you WERE a younger kid at the time to my disaffected teenage rock elitism (even though my garage band-mates insisted on playing their hits...) I GET IT NOW!

Just look at those nuts! Macho glam? Ahhhhhh--pure marketing, no art... I still H-A-T-E the aging bastards! But ILY, you old Relic!

OOPS!
I think the Kiss thing just threw me off, it was such a visceral reaction. You're singin' about the round VINYL disks you and I have stuffing our basements to this day, and our wives can't stand the things! (Well, that's my situation... my old records cost me a good chunk of the moving costs when we relocated!) I'll get more familiar with this song as I listen more closely, since I've downloaded it. Thanks for that!

vinyl
I was thinking about name checking Johnny Winter (the first record I bought with my own money), but I thought I should be honest about what really got me into rock n roll!

I still listen to that Johnny Winter record... I love it (White Hot & Blue)
haven't listened to Kiss in many, many years LOL.

Good one
Like the vocals a lot. A very straight forward rock song. We need more of them these days.

dude!
ah man I knew when I saw the title that I was going to like this song :) Douglas Coupland writes that gen x is the first generation to be nostalgic from birth and i'd agree. could definitely be "now" retro-indie - although I hear more Eagles of Death Metal than Jack White. my favorite parts: the "too much black plastic" refrain that ends the chorus, and the riff afterward...the Solo - what a great approach - you could have tried to scream it but instead went laid back 70's AM, so cool dude - and then the break with the cowbell - "my folks used to think that I was kinda strange" what a great line and too true. Great concept, great composition, well played...and playing in my truck this week for sure...thanks!!

The Real Fab Four
Man, I am so glad you mentioned this in the KISS Army forum post! What a great tune and so cool that you used ALIVE as the art! Love the lyrics - I can smell it - nothing like black plastic.

You rocked this one, Star man (I'm assuming you were Ace because your guitar was smokin'!!)

Great download!

Bob

black plastic
Thanks Bob!
In retrospect I'm not sure if I made it clear enough that "black plastic" refers to my love of vinyl LP's, not Gene Simmons' sweaty stagewear...LOL!

Big Star
... or Let's Active, or Velvet Crush or...

Any of those guys would love to have written this song. Pure power pop perfection. I recently got the Big Star tribue CD and really this song ought to be on it (despite, obviously, not actually being a Chilton song!)
This is just brilliant.

thanks again Paddy, I like all those bands you mention.
If you dig the Power Pop, check out the new Brendan Benson album (or at least the song Eyes on the Horizon) - I'm glad that people are still cranking out this style of music!
