Description
rtcooper and I have a fair catalogue of collabs together, and it was no surprise when this arrived in an email for me to add a bit of instrumentation. I listened and loved the song Coop had written, and over what seems like a month of sending it back and forward between us with extra tracks here and tweaks there, we've come up with this.
Coop has what I call "the Americana thing" nailed here - it immediately reminded me of The Band, so we went in that direction with instrumentation and harmonies. Coop is singing lead and playing all guitars. i play bass, drums and B3 as well as the harmony vocal.
Coop writes great songs, and I am so pleased that he asks me to help him out with them.
Enjoy!

Lyrics
BLOW OUT THE MOON
(c) 2008 rtcooper
When I woke this morning
I saw the Wind come South
We were all praying for rain
To end this drought
Rain don’t come
When the wind blows south
Got bad news in the mail
And the next town over got hail
Took their crops, and flat they lay
If you’re given to it
You might want to Pray.
When I was born in this town
Grand daddy ran the farm
And all his neighbors came
The day they built the big barn
Fair is fair
Right is right
They work the Earth from dawn until night
Now bankers come around
Talkin’ like they know what to do with our ground
But if the crops don’t grow
The banks won’t lend
These crops not going to grow
Till it Rain’s again
I walk through the fields at dawn
They’re Hard as brick
The color’s gone
My dusty boots say what everybody knows
The crops are dying in the scorching sun
And now that the creek’s gone dry
There’s nothin’
Can be done
Mary Lou she left this town
Without a whisper, just slipped from sight
Was as if someone had gone
And Blown Out the Moon
To say good night
But I got to say
And I miss her more everyday
I’m glad she’s not here
To see the Heartbreak fill her town
Somebody had to stay, even if she had to go
She knows I wonder where she’s gone
And hopes that I don’t worry as the night comes on
