Description
Version one of this song was by bibanova/fishcow/lenny lee and is called 'Taste the Sunshine'
Version 2 of this song was by michael2 and is called 'sleeping'
Version 3 of this song is by particledots/fishcow/robert shaw and is called 'Sunshine Hill'

Here is version 4. Again Fishcow's lush strings and ramshackle 70's drums drive particledots' hunky-airy instrumental track. The magic ingredient in this mix is the fantastic vocal from Mystified. Winston Smith persuaded particledots to dust off his vocal chords for some sublime backing vocals (including a mock operatic falsetto on the last chorus)

This is a fantastic 70s pop stomp from SonicMagpie...from the moment it bursts into life to the fading chords

We hope you enjoy this poppy pop song

Version 5 and 6 might be just around the virtual corner

Lyrics
i can sleep (words by mystified)

when you can sleep
it seems that everything is alright to me.
you know it; you show it.
when you can sleep you say
"everything's okay."
you know it is to me;
i can sleep away all my cares,
sleep away, sleep away.
and wake up
you say "I love you."
wake up
you say "I need you."
sleep your cares away with me, my love and
i know it's every day you say you want
to say you love me,
but I don't really need the words,
just show me, show me.
show me....
i need you to be there;
just be there for me.
you know it,
and i'll sleep--
i can sleep, ohhhhh
i can sleep.
you say it
"I love you, baby."
you show me,
'cause you know me
and I believe it.
every day I see you; every day I love you, baby
baby, baby
ooooooh
baby i can sleep.
beside you, always
baby, always
you know it
you know it

Very pretty
There are points in this song that just sound absolutely beautiful. My taste would've liked a few energy changes thrown in somewhere. Regardless, very pretty song here. THanks.

Hi Moses
Thank you for the comments
I am curious, could you be a bit more specific about what you mean 'energy' and 'somewhere'
I would be very interested in maybe taking your specific suggestions on board in a future mix.
Cheers

Yes
Listened to the track again. This time on my headphones. What I mean by energy change is kind of a building up and quieting down at various points in the song. And I think the lyrics can be used to decide the spots that call for it. Think of how you would speak the lyrics if you were telling this to someone and you meant it. What would you stress? What would be calmer? On the second listen I thought this piece needed the energy changes less, and I think the main thing that would be a good change IMHO is to include some sections where sustained notes/instruments are not being used. I left the location of where energy changes were needed vague because I think that is for the artist to decide. What do you want to convey strongly? Left as is, it doesn't seem to me that the character isn't overly excited about what she is singing about. Maybe that is what you were going for? Hope this helps. And keep in mind this is 1 amateur critique, I intend for it to help, but ultimately these things are your call and you know best how you want your music presented.

this backing track is so very versatile...
When versions of this were posted, I really hadn't set my sights on doing a vocal variation of my own. Then, one day as I was trying out a different mic, I found a few random instrumentals to sing to--and this was one of them.

I'd not considered lyrics or a theme of my own, yet michael2's version was called 'sleeping' and Bryn had recently posted a song called "I Can't Sleep," so I thought I'd do a whimsical take on the theme of "I Can Sleep.
Taking a break from my usual, more 'brooding' themes and lyrics (ok, so I was challenged to it :P), you all get to hear a light-hearted, admittedly idealistic 'happy' song for a change ;)

oops!

And...i meant to say THANK YOU! Bryn for the chance to collaborate on this :)
The vocals you added to this are fabulous, too!

It's always a lot of fun to try out different vocal styles and genres, and it's always a pleasure to work on a Sonic Magpie piece!

Thanks, too, for all the comments and listens....you guys are great :)

Really great collab
and extremely beautiful - as in puppies and sunshine and rainbows and unicorns. Okay - maybe unicorns is going a bit far - but you get the idea. Much enjoyed - thanks for being who you all are.
