Fist Full Of Blues with Karmatoburn

Description
After uploading my first open collab, Karmatoburn sent me some really cool piano, synth, and organ tracks. I ended up re-recording the bass line and the rest just fell in place. I wanted to add some female backing vocals during the solo's, but I couldn't find any loops or software instruments that would work, so I left them out for now.

A couple notes: Turn down your volume! For some reason I can't get the mix to start off smooth, so it's kinda loud when the guitars begin. Second, I KNOW it sounds like Pink Floyd a lot, but that's what I wanted. I just hope I don't get a call from their lawyer, lol.

I guess it's still a work in progress, but I hope you enjoy it just the same.

Please feel free to comment on anything.

Chris

Thanks Feter!
I'm glad you enjoyed it so much. It was REALLY fun getting back to the "sounds" and "styles" of playing that I grew up listening to on the radio, but the song would of never been possible if it wasn't for John's tracks. I felt pretty guilty altering the bass line at first, because the original mix with his playing was very impressive to begin with, but after hearing back the altered bass line, I couldn't help but explore it some more. I'm actually quite surprised by the the progress so far, but never the less, it would of never been possible if it wasn't for John's tracks. Thanks again John, the tracks are awesome, and Thank You Feter,

I appreciate the listen and comment very much.

Second thought
how about Sister for your back up fems or some of the other great lady vocalist here on MJ's. I would think that if you asked it would be a no problem call.........

No Drama, Mate
No Drama, Mate, you just freaking blow us away!

Licks or not, you put it together with great impact and keep us satisfied throughout. You make guitar players wanna go home and pick up their guitars again, to share in that joy of spirited sounds, capable on a guitar.

Thanks for sharing your joy.

lol. Ernie Ball, .011 .014 .018 plain .028 .038 .058, a spin off of SRV's configuration basically.

Yes, Karma is one hell of a musician and a nice guy. He actually just sent me the tracks, I didn't even ask him. It was really cool.

I'm glad you enjoyed it and thank you so much for your deepest bow. That means a lot coming from a professional guitarist such as yourself.

Thanks again for stopping by. I really appreciate it.

wicked
Chris, very cool track. Your guitars really scream. I agree that a wailing female lead ala "great gig in the sky" would sound tops in here. I love the new bass line. Everything rocks

I'm REALLY happy that you like it. I'm glad you don't mind the alteration. Yes, a female lead is the next step I'm hoping, just need to drop some notes and hope for some replies.

Thanks again for sending those tracks like that. I really appreciate you taking the time to collab on this. Hopefully we can work together in the future.

Thanks again and the tracks sound fantastic!

Thanks Steve.
I hope to get to work with him again in the future. It was fun. He's so pro, sent me all I needed and I just dropped it in. Thanks again John.

I'm glad you enjoyed it so much. The tones are my trusty Boss GT-8. I've never been more satisfied with a pedal board than I am with this one, but I've been listening to what some folks around here are getting with the Line-6 POD stuff, and if I upgrade I'm going to compare the latest Boss and Line-6 models head to head and then make a decision, so who knows.

Thanks again Steve, I appreciate the listen and comments.

Cheers!

definitely
changes the mood of the song drastically.... loved the keys, they add a synergy and 70's classic rock feel to the song now.
i was really impressed with your slower playing. for fast players, playing slow can be a challenge. it is almost like we want to start out with a couple of slow licks and then go right into the shredding, but your reserved playing only made the faster stuff stand out that much more. great song, chris.

Thanks Allen.
I actually have a SRV version that I think I'm going to post after this one. I used the original file and then just added rhythm guitars with no alterations to the "original' open collab post. I just need to lay down the solo and I'm finished.

lol, yes! I ALWAYS want to start shredding, it's a bad habit if ya really think about it. Reserving my playing has been a breath of fresh air and a great learning experience for me. It's been helping me bring more feeling and direction to my solos and my songs. It's helping me attain my long elusive goal of being "tastey".

Thanks again for taking the time to listen and comment. I appreciate it and I hope your voice returns soon.

Talk to you soon.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. It was one of the more funner songs I've written and recorded in a while. It helped me get in touch with my rock/blues side again, so I'm happy you liked it. I'll have to get to your profile page soon and check out some of your stuff.

Chris.....
This absolutely soars. To me it sounds like Jeff Healy playing with Pink Floyd. I hear your signature chops in this too. It really sounds like you and Jeff (GRHS) with Floyd. Awesome groove and playing, both of you have something to be very proud of.
Peace
Guy

PickQuickRecords said 323 days ago (January 7th, 2009)
Thanks Guy.
I always loved the tone of David Gilmore's Strat, so how the song started falling together with the different bass line and taking that on that "Floyd" sound after I added the rhythm guitars, I just couldn't resist. I ended up using a preset from the factory for the solo tone, I didn't modify it at all, so I was able to jump right into it and start playing, so it was really fun, but I think their lawyer will be trying to contact me soon. lol.

Thanks again Guy. I'll talk to you soon.

Damn
I just left my first Pink Floyd concert and wow... I'm ripped... What a wall of guitar sound! Next time I'll buy my tickets about 10 rows back! My "premium" tickets I bought off that scalper for the bargain price of ($2500) had me right in front of right speaker column... I was kinda shocked cuz he told me I was dead center... next time I need to ask him "center of what!?" I wasn't too worried though I mean Pink Floyd has some mellow stuff and the speaker was only 80 feet high and 6 inches away but that first chord left me reeling then it just never let up!

What a totally great tune in every possible way! Wow!!!
