Counterpoint Chi

Description
Well this is my experiment in using Chikoppi's counterpoint challenge. It's totally out of time and so it might be hard to pick out... The synth part is the counterpoint set of 12 chords that was suggested in chikoppi's thread. The piano is an improvisation I did and I moved the chords of the counterpoint around to roughly go along with what I happened to play when I improvised the piano. It goes 2 times through the progression. Sort of fun to do something random like this.

I don't know either
chikoppi started a forum thread about this. I don't know much about counterpoint but if you play these chords in order, they do create a melody that is contrapuntal. I have made the timing really irregular so that the melodic movement is hard to pick out, and then I also added this piano thing that messes everything up. It's a wreck, in other words!

Nice wreck
Very pleasing to these ears. Trying to hear the counterpoint - but happy not to. When I first saw the title I thought of "chi" - universal energy - then I see it's related to Chikoppi. Or both?
Is this where this started? http://www.macjams.com/song/41153

yeah
both chikoppi and chi are related to this. I don't know about that song, I'd not listened to it, but for me the idea started here, in this discussion

this is really great, so unusual for you too. i could have done with maybe another 5 minutes of the song though (seriously). beautiful. maybe i'll go look up contrapuntal, figure it out and jump in on this one myself. whatever it is, sounds really great and fit for a soundtrack.

I do
I do have another 5 minutes of the piano improvisation, some of which works and some of which doesn't but I just used a section for this. Sometimes I like to sit at the piano and just play with no preconceived notion, and see where it takes me. This was like that, and then I added this set of 12 chords to it and it made it sort of odd.

Yeah
Sweet weird strangness! Reminded me a little of the Doors musical adaptation of the poem about throwing the horses into the sea. Made me think that someone could add some lyrics about throwing Congress and the banking system into the sea!

I have been playing music a long time. When I was growing up my brothers had a band called the Regal Tones which was quite popular in our little town in upstate New York State. They got bitten by the music bug and later went on to found the p... [see more]
