i'm working out how to turn a sound into a flying spaceship...

this was done with some c code i'm working on that computes the position of a moving sound source, then figures out the delays, direct and reflected, and creates a new sound file intended to sound like the moving source

it's funny (to me anyhow) that the Doppler shift of a fast moving sound source simply "falls out of the model" - it sounds cool

thanks!

I have no
idea what your description means (nothing new there). But I do know that this sounds great. I absolutely love these sort of effects and wish I knew how to do them too.
Cheers

i'm glad you liked how it sounded. sometimes i spend hours on something and in the end, it sounds like crap. now, this is rather experimental, so i have an excuse!

thanks

you know, if i could figure out how to build a spaceship, i'd make it large enough to hold a whole bunch of MacJammers, and we could have a great jam session while in orbit around Saturn. really, i would.

thanks

Experiment
I guess I don't quite understand the experiment - is it taking a single track of sound and moving it around in space using a code that manipulates panning (x and y) and volume (z)?

Obviously, creating (or understanding) minimal sound ray tracing algorithms is beyond my musical skills.

That said, this posting is an interesting sonic, and one can't help but wonder how it will interact with another traced (or performed) track. The idea is loaded with latent possibilities. Cool.

you got most of it. there is not much panning happening, it's actually mostly time delays.

i describe it a little in a previous reply.

Eclectic, at best. I learned some music theory at school, and read a ton about it since. I've listened to lots of music over the years. I once played guitar in an actual garage band and actually got paid to play! Once. Although live performance is an... [see more]
