I love your ambient vocals on this. You have a way of really being able to make your voice a part of the whole, melding it perfectly with your choices in instrumentation and orchestration. Great beats in this one. Your production is killer. Very cool stuff!

I love the shifting tambers inside the chordal pads... and then there's that voice to die for... you always have the same effect on me... there is a quality in your voice that seems to call from across time... such a cool impression to leave on a listener...

I hope you like doing collabs - 'cause I have a feeling you'll be getting plenty of offers. Really like the production and the way you use your voice as an instrument. Pretty wonderful.

Silky texture
Hey Lori, enjoyed this very much. Music fits the title aptly. What I'd like to know is the production experience and details of your musical career. I'm always amazed at what others are using for gear and how they accomplish some of the tremendous music here at MJ.

Just give us a bit of info in your profile. Thanks.

Okay...
I'll put more on my profile but honestly, I have no idea what the other people have used when I collaborated with them. I only know my gear, which is severely limited.

Thank you for your comments though!

Welcome to MacJams -
- just in time for the reunion ;)

Nice first post. You have a lovely voice, and the backing track is solid. You might gain some ideas from listening to MJer "Mystified" who has the ambient vocal down to a t.

Cheers,
Neil

Hi and welcome to MJ. This is a really cool piece of music. I like the stop and go nature of the beat and all your instrument choices work well. Lots of nice ambience, and then there's that luscious voice - very alluring, longing...for more. Overall your mix and production are excellent. At times I felt your voice was getting a little lost in the mix, but I don't think it is a volume issue - rather when listening (especially) with headphones it sounds like all your instruments are panned right down the center of your mix, and when you sing your lower notes they start sharing space with some of the other instruments that are playing notes within the same frequency range. You might consider creating more presence for your vocals by simply panning the various instruments a little to the left or right, while leaving your vocals in the middle. And please forgive me if I am incorrect and you have already done that - sometimes it is a challenge to tell - especially when there is a lot of stereo effects going on. It is a minor thing anyway cuz this sounds great - good work and thanks!

How I mixed these vocals
Thank you for your considerate comment. :) I appreciate it! Since I did not do the mixing of the instrumentation, I have no idea how he panned it. But I can tell you this - I purposely mixed the vocals in low, so as to make them another instrument. So if they are getting lost, that's intentional. They are very low and I'm well aware of that. It's the sound I wanted; the feeling of the song I wanted to portray.

Very nice.
You definitely have the "Delerium" (who I love) vibe going. Vocals are perfectly cast in this song, though I do think the overall bass tones may be a tad bit muddy, realizing that someone elde did that part of the song. Anyway, welcome to MJ. looking forward to more of your stuff.

Travelling
This has a great feeling of motion, like sinking into an old leather seat on a train. Killer production, though the maracca sound after the first drop out is a little loud. Nice track girly.

is right, The title matches the overall feel of the song. You have a nice range in your vocal from what i can hear. Enjoyed and thanks welcome to MJ's

Vocals
I LOVE the fact that, like you say in your bio, you're trying to avoid the overpowering vocals that are so common in this type of genre. I love the softness and purity of your voice, and how it blends with the harder sounds of the electronica. Such a wonderful track, and since I normally don't listen to this sort of music, that's saying a lot!! ;)

what an enchanting voice! Very smooth and is a very integral part of this piece. Quite lovely
TheReverendAG said 304 days ago (January 26th, 2009)
OK
To be honest, I don't really like the music aspect of this.. it's way to synthetic. I think your voice (which is great) would sound a lot better matched up with something more organic, if that even makes sense.

Dissonance
Thanks for your candidness. I like experimenting with all sounds and I like the slight dissonance of this one. A friend and I are actually working on a music project called Emeria and those tracks are a lot more organic, slightly celtic in sound. Lots of earthy, rugged strings, that sort of thing.
