Take All Night - live

Description
This is a "live in the shed" version of an earlier post of mine. I've been playing with a few local guys a couple of days a week with the idea of getting something together to do some local gigs. We rehearse (and drink beer) in the drummer's garage (just like the old days), and generally have a great time. Some of the guys are relatively new on their instruments (if not to music), and the lineup when we record something changes according to who turns up. A very flexible arrangement.

Personnel on this are: Peter R -drums; Peter B - bass; Gus - lead; Warren - rhythm; Me - vox and rhythm (lhs).

Recorded live in Cubase via a Presonus FireStudio. Mixed in Logic Pro.

Just a bunch of old guys having fun.

Lyrics
Take All Night
© 2006 Neil Porter

Let’s play a little rock and roll tonight
Crank it up and get the sound just right
What you’ve got sure sounds all right to me
Plug me in to the 21st century

I’m shut inside I’ve heard the falling sound
I’ve been out there and things are burning down
A man could get a real bad case of blues
I’m standing here just playing my blues for you

It makes me feel alright
Man this could take all night
It’s true
I don’t want to fight
Just want to play all night
With you

You can sing about a ball and chain
You can sing about a runaway train
You can sing about anything you want
You can go to that fancy restaurant

It makes me feel alright
Man this could take all night
It’s true
I don’t want to fight
Just want to play all night
With you

Write a song from the county jail
Waiting around for your lover’s mail
I’m absorbing every thing you say
Sing the blues – I’m living them every day

It makes me feel alright
Man this could take all night
It’s true
I don’t want to fight
Just want to play all night
With you

Thanks Steve
I was getting pretty envious of your photos and stuff of you playing live - now I can relax :)

The retro mix is about as modern as we can manage.

Cheers from Oz,

What I said on Lisa's latest....
...as regards outright envy and so on... Sounds like you guys are having a blast... Pretty darn clean for a real live recording... Not all muddy with bass notes and kick drum, and the upper end of the drums (snare and especially the cymbals) sails right over the top...

But really, could you POSSIBLY be looking for crit on this? It just sounds like you're having a wonderful time, and that's the main thing coming through...

Time to go be envious...

Another thing
to be envious about Ed - the drummer keeps his fridge in the shed full of a wide variety of great beers - I mean seriously full!

Thanks Peter!

Hey there Neil
this is a hot track man. First off you all did a great job playing it, and then the recording on Cubase turned out great too. Then into the studio for mastering on Logic, again with the same great results. Now to top all that off, you have a great song.

It doesn't get any better than this my friend. Kudos to the band and to you Neil.

Cubase
is a monster for me Ed, but I seem to be the only one who has any tech background, so PC-based Cubase it is :(

Logic is the beez neez.

Thanks for dropping by Ed.

jiguma said 3220 days ago (January 25th, 2009)
Hi Lena
Would you believe all 6 of the main players sing :) I think the few extras do also - so that makes 8 singers all together. We have a project (the drummer and I) at MJ - you might hear something posted in a few weeks or so.

Band name is "PBGB".

Steve
If you look at what we each play, on any given day in the shed we can have 3 guitarists, 3 bassists, 2 drummers, a harmonica player and a keyboard player (within the 6 regular members). Everyone sings and everyone writes. Plus we have other visitors who drop in to play - mainly guitarists, but a bassist and a drummer have just joined the ranks of the visitors. It really is a heap of fun, especially now that we're starting to do gigs.

Really cool rock tune. Sometimes I thought I was listening to the Velvet Underground. (VU actually had quite a few straight up rock tunes.)

Very entertaining my friend.

This is a kick-a** song, with a really nice beat. It's almost like a train moving on. Superb recording, very tight performance from everyone involved. I get a Dylan-feel from this.

Oh this is too good!
Live 'n' jive, it's jiguma, his band , and a little rock & roll.

Neil... this recording is so fine... clear and... well, I wouldn't even guess it was live. I am so glad you've got some band mates to get out with and perform with. 'Cause that is the best... nothing better than that moment of performing... playing the song the way you rehearsed (ok, maybe a clinker or two), and then seeing the crowd respond. Kudos and best to you and the band.

Jack
jiguma said 3218 days ago (January 26th, 2009)
Thanks Jack
I think the live playing is what I've missed - this was recorded live at a rehearsal, but its what we sound like outside the shed as well.
Oh .... it's "their band" - I think I was the last one in :)

Man, that's where i want to be in a few years .. in a shed with some buddies making rock n roll. A relly cunning little lyric in this one Neil, and production that, as per, has me scratching my head in a 'how does he do that' kinda way.

As I'm getting closer to you (im in kenya) maybe one day i'll pop in for some lessons!
