When Obscurity Beckhams (with Macferret)

Description
Another track from Celebrity Torture.

This started as a different song with Tim (macferret) playing guitar but I ran out of ideas and steam and it fell into disrepair. Luckily Graeme had written a song that he thought might work with this sort of backing.

Graeme Hobbs - words, melody and vocals
Tim - guitar ambience
Me - bass, electronic meddling and arrangement

Tracked in Garageband, mixed and mastered in Logic

As I didn't sing this I never typed up the words but I think they're easy enough

Fine work as always
You do electronica with as much aplomb as you do guitar.

And I wish I could write lyrics like Graeme!

Since Beckham has come to the states,
does that make him a traitor or a hero?

Great track Dick, Tim and Graeme. This is almost as good as putting him on the rack.

Be well and be cool guys,

Ed

Traitor or hero?
Well he didn't go for his football career (from what I read he was pretty undistinguished in LA). Most people reckon he went for the money despite earning around $200,000 a week in Spain. I'm not so sure. He had a flagging career and fancied living in LA is my view. Not a traitor but neither a hero.

Graeme was being quite kind about him I thought and imagining what he would be like if he hadn't been famous.

Thanks for stopping by Ed.

Cheers

window rattler
that is some cool deep bass.
the electronic additions add a excellent spaciness. the minimum guitar is a nice touch as well.
Then there's Dick a top the stadium laying out vocals for the crowd to hear and cheer.
a excellent listen!

Deep and deeper
A mixture of real bass and synths. I'd like to have got more definition on it but then it lost the rumble factor.

And for once it's not me but Graeme putting the vocals!

Thanks Vic, I always appreciate your comments

This is brilliant man....
Super backing track... great bass groove... and vocals to die for.

As a Liverpool man - I couldn't give a monkey's about Becks - and I doubt he "thinks" much. But this is a riot mate!

As the son of a Liverpool man
I've always thought Becks was overrated and if he hadn't been any good at football he would be as ordinary as the rest of us.

I enjoyed the bass groove I must admit and resisted the temptation to loop it as I was enjoying the one riff so much.

What they said...
Well, the 5 or 6 before me understand this kind of music much better than I do, but I can still chime in (can't I?) with Kudos for the superior production quality of this track. I DO love the vocals, though I do wish I could understand the lyrics. My problem: crappy hearing these days.... Oh, oops. The number just...e-n-d-e-d. You probably didn't intend that.
Peace.

The end was not there!!
When you bounce from Logic it gives you a start and end point and I must have put in the wrong bar! That'll teach me to listen to the whole track instead of checking the first 30 seconds.

The lyrics are about a very big celebrity, David Beckham, and poses the question of what he would have been like had he not been famous and the very boring answer is probably very ordinary. It's an exercise in the nature of fame and is part of our new musical "Celebrity Torture".

Thanks fro the comments Paul.

Cheers

Ha Ha Ha
yes - very like Zappa - attack targets that need attacking - and of course these days the pickings have never been richer - this is called putting music to good use - spitting image did it as well - enough of my cynicism.

Great track - clever title as well, I did feel though that a little less effect on the voice would have made the lyrics more defined, but of course that may well be my rock scarred lugs not being as efficient as maybe they could be - in other words my hearing is not the best.

John.

Zappa's a new one
but very welcome nonetheless.

My ears are shot as well but I know the lyrics. I will pay more attention next time :-)

DWL does DVB
Firstly, great title. Secondly, Dick does dub - wow! Thirdly, the lyrics made me wee with laughter. Ever seen 'Star Stories' do the Beckams - genius (tho not as good as the George Micheal one - baby!).

Skinny arses indeed ...

Normally I do DnV
but I kept it down for this.

I've not seem Star Stories but I have seen Stella Street which may be similar.

And Graeme's lyrics win again.

Thanks for the comments Steve.

Never know
what to expect next from you Dick.
Great collab - so unusual - excellent lyrics/vocals from Graeme as always.
Nice to see you using Logic - sounds good.
Cheers

PS: The stop start position whilst bouncing used to really wind me up too until I saw somewhere that if you set the green 'cycle' area at the top to the start and finish that you want, it will always bounce to that without you having to sod about.

I can see
the wry smile on your face from here with those lyrics and I love it.... great commentary on what happens to the rich and famous. How I wish I'd learned to kick a bag of wind around a field... I could have been rich now. Cheers M
