Description
Well one Saturday morning back in 2006 I was laying in bed very early thinking that someone on the internet must have preprogrammed stuff for Ultrabeat... i couldn’t sleep so I got up to do some google searches.. the first thing that came up was macjams... I spent the whole morning here... I couldn’t believe that I had found all these people that basically did the same thing i was doing... now at that point i only had one song in mp3 format... “Find Him” so that was the song that I posted... no other reason... I soon learned to work toward that format.... Anyway it was in mp3 format because I had recently sent it to someone who was going to be doing vocals with me... I recorded it with the guitar tuned one step down... and the highest part was sung an octave lower... this was all to accommodate the folks that I would be singing this with... in this version, I have the guitar tuned regular and I’m singing the high part back up on top... it seems to have more of a sense of urgency this way... I’ve always heard the song more like this... more of a rock version... I originally posted it in folk/rock because it was just guitar and vocals...

my friend Dave was going to stop by this week and lay real drums and violin on this for me.... I mimicked the violin with a sample in the beginning, then I abandoned it, because samples fall short... I reserve the right to repost this if Dave shows up before the week is up... and thanx to my son Dane for the bass trax... great job son

Lyrics
YOU WON’T FIND HIM AMONG
THE PROUD MEN WHO INSIST THAT THEY ARE STRONG
YOU’LL FIND HIM WITH THE MAN
WHO CRIES OUT GOD FORGIVE ME, I AM WRONG
YOU MAY NOT FIND HIM IN
THE CHURCH THAT IS TO COMFORTABLE AND WARM
YOU’LL LIKELY FIND HIM IN
THE WIND THAT RUSHES UP BEFORE THE STORM

FIND HIM IN THE UNLIKELY PLACE
SEE HIS EYES IN THE ORPHAN’S FACE
FIND HIM WHERE YOU ARE LAST TO LOOK
HOMELESS MAN COULD BE HIM MISTOOK

YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED HIM
WHEN YOU PASSED THE HOMELESS MAN NOW LEFT FOR DEAD
LOOK HARD YOU’LL SEE HIM
IN THE HOLLOW EYES OF CHILDREN WITHOUT BREAD
THE PRETTY PREACHER ON
THE TV SAID HE’S WITH US HERE TODAY
I THINK I’LL FIND HIM FOR MYSELF
AND SEE JUST WHAT HE HAS TO SAY

FIND HIM IN THE UNLIKELY PLACE
SEE HIS EYES IN THE ORPHAN’S FACE
FIND HIM WHERE YOU ARE LAST TO LOOK
HOMELESS MAN COULD BE HIM MISTOOK

FIND HIM IN THE UNLIKELY PLACE
SEE HIS EYES IN THE ORPHAN’S FACE
FIND HIM WHERE YOU ARE LAST TO LOOK
HOMELESS MAN COULD BE HIM MISTOOK
FIND HIM IN THE UNLIKELY PLACE
WIPE THE TEARS FROM THE WIDOW’S FACE
FIND HIM WHEN YOU GO DO YOUR PART
FIND HIM WITH YOUR HEART

This is amazing great! Do you still have the original posted!? I'm going to have to go and take a look. I really like this!

Excellent production and the vocals totally shine!

Wow...
I didn't read the part about your son laying down the bass track... That's killer Scott. Excellent bass track!

I got my son into guitar and now bass and have him setup with GB and Logic Express. I just need to find more time to work with him. He loves to record but has some learning to do in my opinion on song composition. But he's only 12... So with some work and patience I'm looking forward to asking him to join me on a track or two!

more impressive
was how quickly he learned it and just knew what to play... there's not much that is more fun than playing with your son... my youngest is turning out to be a killer drummer too... I'll have my own rhythm section... most parents can't wait for their kids to move out... I'm figuring out ways to keep them here

I love...

this song... 'nuf said.

OK, a word or two more. Scott, your songs are such a blend of artistry, truth, and heart. This one is, obviously, no exception. I lead with artistry (not to diminish truth and heart) only because I am awed at your vocals and music. Oh, and I forgot to add... and your songs are so honoring to Christ... which speaks for itself.

much thanks,
Jack

You have a way, my friend,
of delivering His message, without preaching. Your songs express the human condition and how that condition can lead us to find God and Jesus Christ. I love what you do and how you do it Scott and this is just one more example of the love of Christ you share with all of us as well as many others, I'm sure.

God bless you for you work and in your trials my friend.

rockin'
now this is a very dynamic song. I was just starring at the wall taking it all in.

I have to wonder just how many people did find this site just from googling. That's how I got here and am glad that you are a part of this place. And having your son on bass, he did a great job, how cool is that.

oh yeah
What a great song, and what great performance. Fab guitar playing! I love that tone in both the acoustic and the electric. Full of energy. The fiddle is well placed in the mix and adds some nice topping to a plate filled with tasty ingredients.

The words you sing are describing something I recognize as true. And man can you sing... you have a warm quality in your voice like James Taylor has, and your harmonies remind me of Boston (the band). I think you did a fab job:)

Say hey to your son — he sure is a great bass player! You must have fun jamming together.

Lovely song
Really nice song here Scott, rich and melodic and full of texture and detail. Classy performances on all instruments and the vocal. Dane's bass is good.

I know what you mean about trying to get non-real violins to sound good, I've struggled with those things for hours. You've done an amazing job with the sample, even if its appearance is brief.

A nice re-visit
Every time I hear this song it just gets better. Kudos to your son for a fine bass track. It has crossed my curiosity if you would ever take an early retreat from your current business and pursue music full time. I know the results would be successful and It would be a treat to the listener. Wouldn't want to start any rumors... ha ha. I know who you work for though I believe there's nothing wrong with a little help during purgatory. Did you ever find those programmed Ultrabeat files? Enjoyed this very much and thanks for sharing.

no not wrong
I have very little stomach for "Christian Rock" it mostly seems derivative and formated to me... I never wanted music to be relegated to utility status... you know for much of history faithful people led the arts... what happened?.... anyway if you'd have told me that I would be a Christian back in the day... I would have been skeptical...

thank you.. that was uplifting

You're one of the people....
...who can write a song with a Christian theme and not get me annoyed... AND you're one of the people who can take that song and put it across... Not wimpy, not preachy and pretentious and with some punch to it...

Excellent guitars and vocals, and the bass does that perfect bass thing of being excellent and inobtrusive support that, when you notice it, is doing cool stuff...

Ed

Lovely post Scott
The spirit of CSNY is alive and well - excellent bass Dane! My nephew Matthew is starting to learn bass (quite seriously - lessons and all), and he's only 10. I'll send him a copy of this, along with the Tal Wakenfield CD :)

Cool song with your usual great harmonies, instrumentation and production. This could easily have been from my record collection in the 70s.

Peace,
Neil

Scott,
Always a pleasure. I just heard this (the original) again on the iPod on my way to work. You think "He's" trying to tell me something? Maybe.

I like the simplicity of the original better. I get the remix for the festival, I just think this ones too busy for my personal taste. Don't take the criticism as a bad thing. I love this, I just like the other one better. It feels more personal to me somehow. :)
