Cosmic Radiation #1 (Bare Bones Mix)

Get Flash to see this player.

This is the first rough mix of a series that may see the light of day as the next few weeks progress. My idea is to use a perfectly good Ambient track, that I made earlier, and mangle it in various ways until I have another flavour of Ambience and another track to upload. I know this has been done before but not in this particular way by me.

Please let me know if you would want to hear another rendition of this type of thing or if I should leave the experiment well alone. Any views on this initial piece are most welcome by me.

I produced this initial track by laying down soft synth tracks of the following: an instance of Atmosphere, an instance of M42, an instance of M51 and an instance of free Kore player. The human voice/s were made on the kore player, the other 3 instances were used simply for Ambient effect/backing. All were put together with EnergyXT2.5 and Reaper 2.

Sounds best
in headphones, and I like it as it is, BUT its always fun to experimenting, so why not mixing it with one other track. Just my thought. I enjoyed the listening.. Thx.

Hi Kenta...
I have been using a virtual headphone simulator as an effect and this might be why it's better experienced that way. I'll have to have a more thorough listen to the mix before I add any sparklies to other mixes.

Take care.

I always enjoy..
..your creations, Paul, and this one is no exception. I have nothing critical (in the broad sense of that word) to say about this particular invention. I hope you will keep exploring these avenues that are so particular to your own bent. They represent a place in the musical spectrum that needs to be serious addresses, and you are doing that eloquently.

Hi Paul.......
Thanks for stopping by and having a listen. This piece has my 'style' but is really surface noise rather than some of my in depth pieces. Hopefully my full-fat mix will take shape over the next few weeks.

Your encouragement is both welcomed and noted.

Take care.

Hi Daniel....
Yea...This is the 'test the water' mix. There will be other more in depth and multitracked arrangements put together and mixed over the next few weeks.

Take care.

Perfect keywords.
Excellent space music. This is really my favorite brand of ambient, and I hope you will continue in this direction. The mix conveys a deep distance, which is just the thing. It's profoundly mysterious. And although 5 minutes seems like it should be long enough, I found myself saying "Already?" as it ended. Very nice.

Hi Ex.....
Thanks for your informative comments. I will be following this up with others, in a series that build up to something a good deal more substantial. I like your descriptive words. They convay some of my ideas, perfectly.

Take care.

Very nice...

Wow! Paul, that was a cool journey. Rapid images of static along the vastness of space, is what I imagined while listening to this track. The breathing textures expands and contracts, meanwhile I am envisioning solar particles flaring from the sun. I dig this track very much. Thanks for sharing.

I think you should keep on experimenting.

Hi Patrick....
Thanks for your descriptive comments. I think part of the mystery and beauty of these ambient soundscape washes (in general, not just mine) is that, with a small suggestion as to context, a mix should be adaptable to whatever one sees/hears in theirs minds eye/ear. A good deal of what you say is true about the evocative sounds and my words (I hope) sent you on a cosmic mystery tour where anything goes because anything could be experienced.

The way you grok the piece fits perfectly with my 'grokking' as there is no difference, only expansion of the original idea.

Take care.

I agree with Ex_Silentio. Space music indeed and also my favorite type of ambient. The moving static over the top was really great, but what I most especially love about the piece is what's going on underneath, deep in the background, half obscured by the darkness of space. This was soothing and engaging all at the same time, and I too thought, "Already???" when the 5 minutes were up. I really hope you continue this project...I can't wait to see where it takes you (and us).

I hear what you say.........
I think you've spotted my 'style'. I have the warm-ish depth of the backdrop, for a generality and then I add layers on top that draw the listeners attention, and the more they listen, the more layers of the soundscape are apparent.

The number of specifics is determined by the layers I already have mixed together. Every mix starts out with one idea but then, as it develops, any part can go anywhere it pleases. I follow, to see what comes out at the end.

Take care.
