Description
Another submission to the MJRF. I originally posted this in early 2007 with description running along the lines of:

A winking homage to the music I feasted on in my otherwise misguided youth.

Or something like that.

I hear Spanish,
R&B and techno. This infant has learned a lot. A phenom, perhaps? Very entertaining. It kept my interest through all its different facets. Thanks.

Midi
only again?
Wow that´s impressive really.
Specially the double bass and the spanish guitar.
It sounds better than mine which never stays in tune anymore... :-(

Yep, midi only
In fact, I have no external keyboard; I enter every note using my computer keyboard. It's not as insane as it sounds, and it keeps me from falling back into some bad keyboard habits I developed a long time ago and was never able to get beyond.
I'm very glad you liked it, and your comments mean a lot to me. Thank you for listening, Carlos.

Dig it
Very, very original. That's something hard to do in the music world.

Appreciate this one very much.

Funny
I was trying to be over-the-top derivative!

Glad you liked it, though. I have a similar track that's almost done; I will probably post it after all the MJRF buzz has settled down a bit.

Thank you very much for the listen.

Guidance
I love this sort of stuff, too; but I more or less have to wait for the muse to deliver it to me.

Glad you enjoyed it!

SJ,
I must have missed this one? And I thought I knew them all! Sounds quite medieval in a way then breaks into this King Crimson-esque arpeggio laden tapestry. Bravo!

Shadowy beginning
Sorry you missed it the first time around. In those days, my favorite comment was from Tim Devine who dissected every influence in the thing from beginning to end........... a bravura performance of the commenting arts! I was sorry to see it go when I trashed my first account.

Glad you enjoyed it!

This was my first real attempt at tweaking midi to try to get a more convincing sound; thanks for noticing.

two

I really like the slow tempo with deliberate 'plucking' counter harmonies, and was pleasantly surprised at the break to the faster stuff after about halfway through - then a nice gentle return at the end. Cool stuff SJ

Shades of Gentle Giant
Very impressive. I saw GG in Mannheim in '76 and couldn't believe how they all simply swapped instruments at the end of a song an played the next one with similarly virtuoso skills.

But I digress. This is a really interesting song - he fact that its all midi really is amazing.

Great sounds. A refreshingly inventive post!

Gentle Giant
I have a snobbish friend who has mercilessly ragged me for the Gentle Giant in my collection, but I think they are a flat-out amazing band: hugely accomplished instrumentalists who can sing some of the most intricate harmonies this side of Dirigent! They are a little before my time, though, so I missed any opportunity to see them live; you are a lucky guy.

Thank you for the kind words, and for the festival in general. A great idea beautifully executed!

Best,

Sj

We are on the double live GG album - you can hear us shouting ourselves hoarse between songs :)

There are a couple of really good videos around showing them in concert - one at the BBC in London I think.

ranging
i like the range of the pace here. the beginning is almost medieval, and that frenetic section towards snaps us back into the present. cool!

thanks
