devo
I was half expecting something like Devo.
A really interesting pice of music.
Well constructed.
Are you planning on building on this or leaving it as it is?.
It's a lovely piece on it's own but around half way I was expecting strings to come in..which they do later to great effect...but maybe sooner would work too.\
Just a thought
Great song

it's funny, i thought about Devo too, and almost decided to drop this name because of the wrong concept. but i liked it for it's dual nature and the nod to Darwin.

i held off on the strings to allow the instruments to finish their convergent evolution.

thanks

time signitures at war!
This has a great feel - the way the pace drops then picks up, like a duet in time signatures. Cool. Did I hear a bit of house of the rising sun in there somewhere?!!

yeah, the triplets worked out nice as a way to contrast the two little melody/rhythm/chord motifs.

i was definitely going for the duet idea.

that chord progression sort of emerged as i worked on it. it appears in many songs, can't think of an example offhand though

thanks

Voyage music
and I feel the waves hitting the sides of the ship, by the signature changes. Very cool and interesting. Forgive my ignorance, but is this software notes or keyboard, or both? However you created it, it sounds real good, even to a creationist.

the initial idea came from improvising on the acoustic guitar, but what you hear here is entered note-by-note in the editor to approximate what i improvised. i used a flamenco guitar software synth and a bluesy guitar synth. it's my belief that we can all enjoy music regardless of our beliefs.

2nd listen ......
time changes are pretty interesting Bill. Tune is a sailor looking over the mast of a ship at sea and contrasted by his love waiting on shore ... or not ... I love the way it builds at the end into the orch. One small nit ... I could have had a bit more. Nice one Bill

i had the vague idea of a duality/duet in mind: the title (the union of two disciplines), the pic (shadows of my wife and i), the reference to two ships of two scientists from two eras, all come into play. you're quite welcome to imagine your own duals too!

thanks

i felt pure deepness and caught a fantasy/medieval vibe. Im really liking this man...I can see a bard with his lute playing on the white sands over the shoreline playing to the sea. I feel ive heard this in an old RPG game or fantasy tale. very nice

Thanks, not only
for the amazingly creative music as always (which is a dream to listen to), but also for the lesson in evolutionary/devolutionary theories which I had not read about previously. You really are a mine of information as well as a great musician.
Cheers
Len

if you search on evo-devo or HMS Beagle and the Sorcerer II - you'll find lots of interesting stuff about Darwin and evolution, Craig Venter, and the new sciences that are emerging today. fascinating times we live in.

thanks

Wonderful tune Bill
Another intriguing, entertaining, and thought provoking performance. I wish I had your dedication to and idea - and the ability to pull it of like this. Thinking about cool stuff is one thing - expressing it is another.

thanks Bud

since it's Darwin's big birthday, i wanted to simulate convergent evolution in a musical way. it's only partly successful in achieving that goal, but it served as a framework. probably some more music will fall out of this experiment.

Rockin my boat
Nice sounding motifs. The beginning made me think of a super sophisticated (dueling banjos-not), but some dueling hammered hybrid guitarsichord whose effect of the two, creates the forward motion through the waves.
Luscious.

yeah, they are dueling, aren't they? i hadn't thought of it in that way, more like a duet - art, ya gotta love it - so many ways to interpret things!

the motifs are more like strumming patterns than actual melodic lines, but i guess it works...

thanks

Almost an antiphonal music piece
that morphs into a duet. Another fresh approach that makes this a delight. Thanks Bill!

Be well,
Doug
