I'm Not Really Here (Invisible Man)

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
So I've been on a huge Radiohead kick lately. Listening to all their albums, watching the videos (In Rainbows: From the Basement is a MUST download). Anyway I saw them perform '15 Step' the other night on the Grammys with the USC Marching band and needless to say I got seriously inspired. This is the result.
The song's about my anti-social tendencies that tend to surface whenever I'm asked to go to a party or something. Sometimes I wish I could just tell people 'oh I'm sorry. I'm not really here right now'.
I spent a long time on the percussion in this one, and it marks my first song with finger snaps. I gotta say it sounds pretty good in the headphones. Try it!

Lyrics
Pull the hammer back again and release
Open fire on me and then leave me be

I never wanted anything from you
So don't make me do this
I'm not here

I have upped and gone away
I never wanted to stay here with all of you today
I've got nothing good to say
I'm not here

I am racing myself home where I can be all alone
Disconnect my telephone
Burn the evidence I stole
I'm not here

I never wanted anything from you
So don't make me do this
I'm not here

I'm not really here

round the bends
it's a sort of in rainbows song with a bends-era ending. Very well done and I really relate to the topic. Compared to Thom York you really sound like you're on amphetamines. Plus you look better than him, and not only on this picture.

Prima!
I have a song posted with the same title w/vic holman.

I've been loving your acoustic stuff lately.
Great percussion.

Spectacular ending.

You're a pro dude.

I'm loving
the guitar work in this... I can totally ID with the topic... Sometimes I'm very social, other times I just want to be left alone.

radioheaded
man last week you out aliceinchained aliceinchains and this week you out radioheaded radiohead. really really like the finger snaps (and rest of percussion). you definitely have a better voice than York. if you want to take this up and out of radioheadland visit bjorkville before you leave and add some human beatboxing - that would be super cool here i think.

Another super song
You're on a roll brother. Like the metre on this one - 6/8 right? Really drives the song. Excellent acoustic work, tasty electric coming in, extremely well sung. Reminds me of Hail to the Thief era Radiohead - but it has it's own uniqueness too! Excellent Ridd!

6/8 yes. honestly i only know that because you just told me, but i think i get how time signatures work now. so thanks! glad you like this. 'Hail to the Thief' is up there with my fave radiohead records so this song is definitely inspired by it. glad you like it, thanks

I really
think you ended up making something really great and not related at all to radiohead.I wouldn´t spot the influence if you haven´t mentioned it (excepet for the title - wich takes us back to How to disappear...).
As the song progresses, one can get a little (but very little)of "Go to Sleep".Anyway, I liked your song a lot regardless of radiohead or not.
Congratulations.Downloaded.Fav´ed.

PS:Their Grammy performance was amazing! But, regarding their videos, please avoid at all costs "Meeting people is easy"!

Nice
Like the lower end acoustic guitar, plus cool beats. You produced a nice sound in that acoustical guitar. Especially in some of the progressive open sounds going up the fret board!
Nice strumming with that energy your a doing, then going into the electric guitar nice. Nice movement to it.
Nice vocal too!

Thanks for sharing!,

yeah, you're pretty good at this
Great sound you have here. Dig the acoustic. The perc works as a sassy spice on this plate of tasty ingredients. Good song — super performance and production.

PS! Have you considered – what if the rest of us wasn't here...

I do like this a lot
A terrific piece of songwriting and overall a great sound, albeit a little derivative of the Radiohead sound, but you acknowledge the influence and you do such a fine job of it that I'm quite willing to forgive it. But for my mind, the vocal isn't quite strong enough. I'm taking off my radiohead and putting on my criticalhead there but I reckon that there's a better vocal take in you.

thanks
yeah it's definitely a radiohead homage if you will. and you make a good point about my vocals. I'll definitely redo them if this song goes any further (ie. the next CD). It was late at night and I couldn't put a lot of 'oomph' into em for fear of waking everyone up, so yeah I definitely held back in some areas. Thanks for the honest feedback - it's much appreciated!

finger snaps all around
YOU really captured the essence of R.H. Brilliant

The percussion is nicely intricate. that's one thing I've noticed about there music as well, that the drummer doesn't usually do four to the floor.

this is the style of music that I really like. i think you're on to something Ridd

I'm digging this in phones
Unfortunately that's how I hear most of my music. Otherwise my kids are shouting "Turn that down!". Isn't that my job? Rid this is such a classic Yorke vocal performance it's uncanny. It's also a classic Rid performance - which makes me start to wonder - have I ever seen you two together? Fantastic song. Thom would be jealous.

Jeeper!
You're always great with dynamics, but you are masterly with them here! This is full of contrasts with the percussion and the guitars and you move things in and out of the arrangement in such a terrific way. This is one of the most interesting arrangements I've heard on this site, ever, by a mile.

I truly can't believe this only has 10 downloads. That's nuts. Add one from me and a thank you. ---L

Finger snaps
thats all you had to say. Radio head I think affects all who listen. There was a time when hail to the thief never left the cd player in my car. Great song like I have said before your singing is seals the deal on this. The heavey guitar part comes in at just thr right spot and then the sudden ending what more can I say! excellent!

the clock is ticking
does that mean this song is 120 bpm? :)

this song speaks to me on so many levels, dood! from being inspired by radiohead to my own antisocial tendencies. i can't stand, what i call, passive activities anymore. ie.: activities where i have nothing to show at the end. i have never had anybody come up to me after i watched a movie and say "the way you watched that movie inspired me" or, after a party, "i'm going to have the way you attended that party stuck in my head for a week".

i donnow, maybe it's vanity or narcissism, but i like to walk away with something tangible - that i can share with others and hopefully others can enjoy. i know how impactful music is to me, so why wouldn't i want to participate - and share music with others. all i know is i am having trouble, as of late, feigning interest in all other activities.

Huge Radiohead fan
This is just awesome work man. I can hear the influence but it's far, far from any kind of ripoff. I'm glad I ventured over here - seems you have a lot more songs here than on other music sites. I have some serious listening to do.
