Dude...
...The Meters called...They want their groove back... If you're done with it...

I think Fran B does a really nice job on the latter half of this medley, and I think you're playing, both time and tone, are really good... like the wah bits... But you know that...

fran bishop
is a master drummer. It took me a while to realize just how good he is. But he is amazing. As a band, his brothe and I took a while to find our "spot"...our tempos would vary and grooves would slip...but we kept plugging at it and all of a sudden the band is solid unit...we all are feeling the time the same way, we are playing with just enough space so we dont jumble all over each other. Playing without a keyboard is hard, because every clam sticks out like a sore thumb...but to have a drummer who can lay down 2 or 3 sets of distinct rhythms simultaneously is a great great asset to a small band like ours...listen to his playing on Libby's theme...at the outro...one of my favorite moments at a gig OR a rehearsal....I love my band!!!!!

and ed, his drumming on People Say is so funky it's almost immoral.

You know,
...you SENT me a version of 'People Say', and it had me going back to iTunes to revisit the original... I really love the Bishop Brothers, and lately I've been really listening to what Fran B. does... No flash, just deep in the groove, and I really love it...

what a great version
It's plain that in the year since I saw you guys... you have gelled even more... nothing like playing together to really know where a song sits... your right Scott's pipes are killer... the mix and producing sound excellent... the level is a tad low... nothing that the adaptive limiter can't fix... I would want to keep that transparency you have in this mix though... I love your playing man... I've said it before, but it's what you play when you're not soloing that sets you apart.. a players player

great live recording
This sounded to be a night where you must have set fire to the place with your hot music. The recording sounds very good at my end. Listening through a couple of sennheiser HD 280 pro's, and every little detail from the kick drum to the tambourine comes out distinct and good sounding. Most of all you have captured a great live night with much good energy coming through as well:)

great capture

on the live recording. Mic'ing must have been a pain. How many channels did you grab the recording on? It sounds like very close to multi track instead of stereo.

Great song(s), and a nice grab on the live outstanding performance. Scott is really doing well...

thanks Harold!!
i had my alessis interface which has 7 working inputs...there are 8 but one is broken...I had mics on all the drums, which i submixed to a behringer mixer...they were split stereo and mixed down to 2 tracks. The bass drum had it's own track. I close mic'd the git with a senheiser 609 silver. the bass was close mic'd with a shure sm57...each had a track. I had a direct feed from the sound board for the 3 vocals and electric harp (on a single track)...and a track that was an AKG perception 200 stereo condensor mic out in the audience....the condensor in the audience didnt work to well cuz of some screaming loonies at a birthday party, and the constant sound of pool balls hitting one another....

but of all the times i have tried to get a live recording that was listenable as more than just a reference tape, this is the best i have done....i am going to try again, and hopefully capture the band on a better night....all the guys played great, but i was not really playing that well, as i had a cut on my left index finger that by the end of the night was really hurting....but i am proud of these recordings, warts and all. Cant wait to try it again!!!

Harp
player is awesome. He has a great technique. I was listening thru my stereo speakers and everthing sounds good, the mix sounds pretty even. Its got a nice club feel to it. Nobody seems to be drowning out the other guy so overall its a good live recording. Your ampeg sounds real good, like the tone.

Sound and performance excellence...
The sound is great. The playing is excellent. If this is an off-night you would be positively *scary* on a night when you're really feeling it.

You guys are a band I'd like to hear and I'd like to play with.

Sweet!
Everything sounds good. Crisp and crystal clear, the bass sounds great thru my sub. No weak members of the band either, that must be nice. Dig the greasy funk on the second song. I'm jealous.

Sounds great on my little system...
Now that's a harp! Great sound on the recording--what a band; you are one lucky dude. You are right, the drummer is insane! And that bass player's right behind him. Great blues guitar, tasty. Sounding good on small systems is harder than on big ones, you did a great job on the mix.
