From Shetland to Syria v4 MJRF

Description
This was the first composition that I put together. I used my son's mac, Soundtrack, and just started pulling loops out of the loop browser one after the other until I was done. I had hoped to actually add some live instruments to this particular remix but I am pressed for time so I did a little re-balancing of v3 and that's it.

The idea behind the song is the broad influences of celtic music and how they can be played with together rather than in a linear (temporal) evolution. This is also inspired by some of the work done by Loreena McKennitt who is a brilliant artist on so many fronts.

The artwork is a digital painting I made from a photograph of a sand dune.

Hope you enjoy it!

Good Layering
I like the layering and the mix is good with good bottom. Everything is clear and in good balance. I would say a very good song overall.
Thanks Mike

The beat in this is kind of infectious, no? I can't claim too much credit though as it is a loop. :o)

It's always cool to see
how different people employ the same loop. I liked your piece The Clairsentient very much and note that you did a lot of mixing of different vocals as well (rather a lot more than I did here).

Thanks for the comments!

Bonjour Marc
I can't claim credit for the vocals as they are all loops, but I am glad you like how I selected the sounds and baked them into this result.

Merci encore,

From Shetland to Syria
What a fascinating journey - love the Celtic sound combines with the oriental vocals and the modern electro-percussion sound. A felicitous mixture. There are some wonderful niceties, as the excellent use of vocal samples and the Didgeridoo. We are one world, yeah!!!

Groovy tune
Reminds me very much of Martyn Bennett (who I would strongly recommend if you don't know him)

Good hypnotic groove and the mix of the instruments and vocals is excellent.

Cheers

I'm so glad you enjoyed this one. Thanks for such positive remarks. I liken some of the magic here to beginner's luck which then got polished up with the feedback I received.

right then
from this student creator of driving beats to the master, your kind words are most appreciated here. I find that in Celtic music bringing out this kind of beat just seems to be an easy target.

Very nice piece : )
I'm very fond of Loreena McKennitt's work also. This is a very nice arrangement - beautiful - up-beat - very nice vocals.
Doug Somers said 195 days ago (May 16th, 2009)
Thanks Trillian, but
I can't take credit for the singing. Still, I think the assembly of sounds is what I wanted to express and I'm so glad you liked it. Thanks for letting me know your thoughts, and it's always nice to hear from another Loreena McKennitt fan.

Cheers,
