Spontaneous Human Combustion

Description
I felt the need to put down the acoustic and turn it up. You will either love or hate this... there is no in between.
This is loosely based on a book called 'Fire Pattern' by Bill Shaw wherein the phenomena of Spontaneous Human Combustion is a result of alien invaders taking control of human bodies. Good read!

Lyrics
THEY CAME AT NIGHT
WITH BRILLIANT LIGHT
THEY TOOK ME BY SURPRISE

I HEARD THEM SPEAK
BUT DID NOT SEE
I COULDN'T OPEN MY EYES

I FELT THE HEAT
WARMING MY FEET
THICK, BLACK SMOKE FILLED MY LUNGS

THEY SCREAM OUT LOUD:
"GET ON THE GROUND!
STOP DROP AND ROLL OR YOU'RE DONE!"

I THINK I'M ON FIRE
I THINK I'M BURNING UP
I THINK I'M ON FIRE
AND I'M ALREADY GONE

WHEN THE SMOKE CLEARED
MY BONES WERE ASH
MY SOUL HAD LEFT IT'S BURNT SHELL

I'VE TRAVELED TO
A BETTER PLACE
AND I'VE ESCAPED THIS HELL

I WAS ON FIRE
I WAS BURNING UP
I WAS ON FIRE
AND I'M GONE

burning man
Slow or fast. Who cares if it's great stuff?
Great guitar riff and solo.
I would have maybe bought the chorus in after first 2 verses but that's just me
Apart from that, cool stuff
Nice one

thanks
glad you dig it. adding a chorus there would be the right thing to do musically, and I did consider it. But as I was singing it just felt right to keep going with the verse. Thanks for the feedback though

Put me in the love it camp
Nice use of distorted vocals - something I'll have to try one of these days. You may have shifted gears - but I still hear some RH here - not a bad thing at all. Though actually if I think about it - this goes back to Sonic Youth as much as Radiohead. The bass is a killer. Sorry for the comparison shopping - you do have your own sound to be sure - and it's great - I'm just an indie rock wonk.

vox
Thanks kevin. the vox were originally clean but seemed to lack an edge that I thought the song called for. There's still a clean track but it's doubled with a distorted track panned a little to the right. glad you think it works.
and hey - i love comparisons! i hear those bands too in this

thanks kenta. 'hot' would be an appropriate term considering the subject matter hehe. I'm glad you like the distortion - I know some people aren't huge fans of it.

I know that feeling Ridd...
You dealt with it beautifully here - bet it felt good. Love the guitar in the dual channels. Snowball vox sounds great too. You're a class act!

spontaneous
jeepers i love that grinding guitar sound you get. it's that damned firebird. cool vox too.

i worked for a japanese company for a long time - they have the highest rate of spontaneous human combustion in the world and I swear there were times i thought i'd see it. Another great tune dude. The end is killer.

temp
thanks dude. the f-bird never lets me down.
it's a crazy thing, SHC. I looked into it a little and it's just so messed up. I didn't know Japan had the highest rate though. That's nuts!

Funny that...
.... tempie should mention Japan and SHC. This puts me in mind of a band called MAd Capsule Markets - a Japanese tech-metal outfit of exceptional skill.
Guitars are great, vocal treatment is top and the lead licks are spot on. Loving this.

Love
Love the concept behind the song (book sounds cool) and love the sound. Guitar is blistering here, and I think the effect on the vocal works. I tend to be leery of effected vocals, but here it just fits. Plenty of fire in the vocal performance too, by the way! Very cool. Nicely done. Peace.

Is the artwork
taken from the Graphic Novel MARVELS?
You drums sound awesome and that scream at the end is killer.
I am really delving into more aggressive sounds and this is a great addition to the anger collection.

I really like the main riff. very hooky and memorable.
and spontaneous combustion is a good topic for a song, there's just no doubt about it.
guitar sounds are all awesome.
the end is cool. the guy is in a better place, but somehow doesn't sound that happy about it...

Raw and rocking..
Really dig the feel of this tune - great energy. Ever hear a song that makes you think of another, and you have to go into iTunes and listen to it again? This brought to mind Do The Evolution by Pearl Jam - just a similar feel. Great rocker - definite download for me. Thanks.

I'd love to hear
the solo behind the verse (a little lower in the mix) and a ripping penatonic solo (w/ a little wah?) This has an awesome STP vibe. I love the attitude. It's great the way it is. Just thought I'd share the ideas that came to me as I was hearing it for the first time.

Liked your
singing but I thought the vocals were drowned out by your dynamite instrumentals. Your music might aid and abet the aliens in their quest to make ashes out of all of us. Fierce and fire-y. Thanks.
