Description
Another collaboration with the Missus.
She wrote the words and I wrote the music.
Over to her for an explanation about the song...

I always thought that the tickets for the gravy train should be one way.
Inspired by the Restaurant at the end of the Universe by the sublime Douglas Adams where a spaceship is sent into space to rid Golgafrinchum of it's useless populace.
Golgafrincham, home of the circling poets of Arium, decided that one third of its population was useless, and devised a ruse to get rid of them by concocting a story that their planet would shortly be destroyed in some great catastrophe. The useless population consisted of middle management, telephone sanitisers, management consultants, marketing executives, hairdressers and the like.
So it's about getting rid of things that aren't needed

Hope you like it

Lyrics
THEY LIVE ON BIG DREAMS IN TIMES OF SMALL HOPE
WHILE WILFUL DENIAL KEEPS THEM CONCEALED
WRAPPED UP IN DELUSION AND SELF ADORATION
ACCOUNTING FOR NOTHING, ALL DEBTS ARE REPEALED

THE SHIP THAT WILL TAKE THEM IS SWIFT AND EXPENSIVE
THE ROUTE THAT THEY’LL TAKE WILL BE FAST AND IMMENSE
THE ONE WHO LIVE LIGHTLY WILL WITNESS THE LEAVING
AND KNOW IT’S THE LAST TIME THEY’LL BEAR THE EXPENSE

YOUR TALENT FOR MALICE HAS EARNED YOU YOUR TICKET
YOUR COVETOUS SELF HAS RECOVERED THE COST
THIS EMPTY TRANSFERENCE IS WHAT YOU HAVE ORDERED
THE BOOKS HAVE BEEN BALANCED YOUR SOUL HAS BEEN LOST

THEY’RE WAVING GOODBYE TO THE VICIOUS AND WASTEFUL
AND SAYING FAREWELL TO THE GREEDY AND VAIN
A ONE WAY EXCURSION, NO CHANCE OF RETURNING
THE CARGO OF HOPELESSNESS BLISSFULLY VAGUE

YOUR TALENT FOR MALICE HAS EARNED YOU YOUR TICKET
YOUR COVETOUS SELF HAS RECOVERED THE COST
THIS EMPTY TRANSFERENCE IS WHAT YOU HAVE ORDERED
THE BOOKS HAVE BEEN BALANCED YOUR SOUL HAS BEEN LOST

chords
Thank you
I used a few more chords than I usually do.
I got carried away but thought it worked.
I've got my Missus to thank for the words

Love this tune!
I was sorting out my iTunes files and came across 'Skeleton Jack' and 'Stay Still Forever' - I'll be adding this little gem to them. Great song! Thanks for the download.

Thank you
It's good fun working with someone else lyrics and trying to write some music to fit them into rather than doing it all myself.
Very refreshing way to work.

Aria II
I've had it for about 20 years now. It's terrible for live gigs but good for home playing. As for the Fleetwood,it sounded good in the shop but it's not my favorite but does the job.
Anyway, glad you liked the tune.
Much appreciated

Duo
It's a new way of working for me as I've always wanted to do all the words and music in a song but I'm finding it works very well and brings a different feel to my stuff.
Thanks for your comments and listening

Nice one
I like your voice. I reminds me of many post punk/Brit singers from the past - there's a very light hint of a snarl in there which fits the lyric well. I like the chord progression - especially that occasional unexpected one at the end of the refrain (not sure where you go there but it's interesting - kind of what Bowie might do?).

Really cool track -
Phil

Bowie
I didn't have anything in mind when I wrote the music but the more I did of it I kept thinking it might have been a Bowie song on Lodger. Glad it gave that kind of feel. The chord progression is not something I generally use and am happy it worked.

Great
Sounds really good - kudos to the missus! Sounds a little like early Pink Floyd - the Nile song etc. That's a good thing by the way... I like the way the solo comes in, in a wave of fuzz. Good stuff...

I don't think I've heard the Nile song.Will give it a listen
Even though the solo is quite simple I was quite pleased with it and thought it fitted in just right.

Blimey
lovin it. definitely a top tune.

However! on a side note... werent the population of Golgafrincham wiped out by a particularly virulent disease caught, i believe, from an unsanitized telephone? probably worth it still though.
