Description
I was just picking at the keyboard and came up with something that I thought Gail could make better. She sent me a great piano track that makes it sound like a real song. I'd love some critiques, but I don't know if I'll have enough energy to follow through on them.

First of all
I am honored that you asked me to add piano to this. You know that without you, I would have never joined Macjams in the first place! I am so thrilled to see you post this - with or without me in it :) This is very pretty, soothing, peaceful and all the things I care about the most. Music for my soul. Wonderful job. Thanks for sharing it here!!

second of all
Who else am I gonna ask? Your track tied this piece together. Without the piano it would not be listenable. So thank you for looking out for me. I'm still amazed you can improv something like that in one take.

Music to my ears
to hear the fabulous Gail here! And I don't want to hear a thing about "not joining at all"... we would all be much poorer if that were the case! :(

Excellent, sweet tune this is!

elegant
Nice arrangement, I like the orchestration and piano, they carry the plaintive melody along nicely. With the picture and title, I probably would have doubled the speed of the initial "wing flap" stacatto notes at the beginning of this, maybe alternating octaves C3/C2/C3/C2 kind of thing. Also if it is a "return" then the fade-out at the end didn't make sense, I was expecting some kind of closure, like a switch to a final Major chord, possibly. Those are the only suggestions I can think of... otherwise it is quite lovely, and you should both be proud of this! Great to hear something new from you, Warden!

right over my head
Thank you for the comments. I see your point on the wing flaps at the beginning. But have you ever seen an eagle take off from a tree? Huge wings and slow powerful flaps. At least that's my excuse, and I also meant my return to the nest as well. A mating pair of bald eagles and I meet there at the nest each February.
As for the ending and closure, I know of only one way to end a song: fade out. Seriously I really have no clue what I'm doing. I really appreciate your honest critique though.

Returning to the Nest
this is BEAUTIFUL!! This orchestration is just marvelous, and Gail's piano is of course, stunning in every imaginable way. Kind of funny this got posted on the same day Mark posted the "i miss gail60" thread - great job you two!

Awww... so nice.
A soothing song to end my day. Such a warm composition.

I know what you mean on the energy to follow through to a real song.

But this, nonetheless, is a precious moment of music for me now.

Cinematic is actually, probably what we were going for here. I'm always thinking of a video to accompany music.

Many thanks to Gail for pointing in this direction. Such wonderful and soothing music for the soul and heart. You has taken a visual image of grace and magnificence and with Gail brought it to life so all of us can share the vision. No nits from here just much deserved Kudos and many thanks for taking us along. I have discovered a "new" artist to track in the deal as well ... very nice indeed. "Warden" ... excellent work .... and Gail ... well you know . . .

I appreciate that.
It was my first try at separating instruments based on orchestra seating. I was worried it ended up to strong in one ear or the other.

wow how did i miss this?
this is gorgeous, pensive and full of emotion. wow. a beautiful composition, great orchestration. gail's piano is lovely, as always - my only suggestion would be to bring the piano up just a bit in the mix. a beautiful beautiful song.

I was going
through some of my earlier works and found that you faved a few. I'm sorry for not following up because what I found when I went to your page was some very fine work. I may have listened to an early version of your orchestra 7 - it did seem familiar. On listening to Returning to the Nest I found many things to like. You have a calm and purposeful music soul. This is a lovely work and I hope to hear more from you.
Cheers,
Charlie
