Description
This is another song that sounds like a departure from my norm. I jokingly refer to it as my "Cake" song. You'll know why if you've ever listened to those guys. It was a fun song to play.

I suppose the lyrics originated from being stuck in an airport so much this year. My family is in Nebraska and I'm in Montana - I'm flying back and forth every month this year.

Lyrics
Somewhere In Between

I watch the people, as they go by
Intent on their own purpose and fulfilling busy lives
This place seems a prison, we have our own rules
A city with a heartbeat filled with countless Kings and fools
Make way for the strong and leave behind the rest
Don’t forget to show who’s boss and remember show your best
So lets salute to this station, a stand alone nation
Move on with your task no room for procrastination

I’m waiting in between this place halfway from you to me
I’ve got some time to kill and I would love if it you could join me
I’m waiting in between this place its better than TV
I’ve got some time to kill just throw me in and toss away the key

The man with direction, he carries a smile
What’s hiding underneath him has been buried quite a while
We stand in line, we follow the right path
Amusing when observing if you’ve only done the math
We’re paving a way for the new found breed
But where is the person who will rightly take the lead
So lets salute to this station, a stand alone nation
Step back and marvel and this man made creation

I’m waiting in between this place halfway from you to me
I’ve got some time to kill and I would love if it you could join me
I’m waiting in between this place its better than TV
I’ve got some time to kill just throw me in and toss away the key

I watch the people, as they go by
Intent on their own purpose and fulfilling busy lives
This place seems a prison, we have our own rules
A city with a heartbeat filled with countless Kings and fools
Make way for the strong and leave behind the rest
Don’t forget to show who’s boss and remember show your best
So lets salute to this station, a stand alone nation
Move on with your task no room for procrastination

311
Its funny cause when I was first learning to play I was influenced by 311 who were just a small local band in Omaha at the time.
I'll let you guys know when the CD will be available for download through RPM. Soon as I understand it.

Killer
This is fantastic man. I am a big fan of Cake and would've picked up the influence if you hadn't mentioned it (definitely hear John McCrea in the delivery of the verses). Great lyrics and overall great song. An absolute download for me. Thanks.

311
I don't even hear a 311 feel but it's a heck of a compliment so it's cool by me. I used to go to all their shows back in the day

Another great effort
This is great Nick. Kinda reminded me of the Suicidal Tendencies a bit. The opening is brilliant. I'm with Ridd on this one.

Freaking Great,

Dave

lyrics
The whole song was wrote aroung that opening guitar riff. They keys just seemed to fit and I ran with it.
My lyrics are always written in a push at the end - I'm surprised they came out at all. I'm OK with the finished though.
Thanks for the comments.

Cake-ish
Nick,
Yeah it is Cake-ish, but certainly very Flash-ish, too. I like the sparseness of it. Good restraint. I saw Cake at Roseland in NYC about 6 years ago, they opened for Cheap Trick (who were amazing, Robin Zander has one of the best voices in rock if you ask me). Cake on the other hand was ho-hum, although I love their albums, "The Distance" is one of my favorite songs EVER. Anyway, I digress. Cool song. Great mix. Love the rappy-ness of the vox.

cake albums
Yeah their albums are great. Never seen them live yet but heard a few songs live and they just never sound very good. Never seen Cheap Trick either but I always hear their shows are great.
Thanks,

good song
quite rocking. I really love the guitar sound, a nice punchiness to it that I haven't really be able to get - may I ask how you recorded the guitar? It actually sounds a bit like the B52s to me...
all the instruments sound really great actually - well produced and performed. true rock n roll vibe to it.

guitar
The guitar is recorded DI through my Boss GT-3 (no effects selected) directly plugged to the computer. From there I'm using the Nashville guitar amp setting (I think - I'm nowhere near my studio computer right now). It does have a good sound. I'll probably use that setting again for something else. I hear the B52's thing a little too.
Thanks for listening!

stuck in the airport
I know that thing.

Not familiar with Cake - but this must be the icing on it. Super punch in this rocker, nice balance and separation on every thing. I like that tone you got on the guitar as well.
