Description
I havent done anything like this in a LONG time.....and it was fun. I create things for myself, to help me fall asleep. I have struggled with insomnia off and on my entire life and I discovered that Indian music, ragas....and meditative music like the music produced for the ECM label really helped me settle down. Over the years i have developed a deep love for this style of music.

I did a lot of this type thing early on in my recording days...I have one posted that Mystified sang on for me called SOLITUDE you may enjoy if you like this sort of thing...but this time I had the great opportunity to use REAL percussion played by a master drummer to work with....I went to our rehearsal space with the mics and macbook and recorded Fran Bishop playing the chimes and the tom toms and cymbals with mallets. When I got home and listened back, I realized that Fran had improvised quite a nice journey with mallets and cymbals. i isolated that part of my recordings, and used exactly what he played as the basis for the raga...the first step was to play a drone track on a Fretless Fender Squire bass (Bryan's Boo-Boo)....then I added guitar texture and added chords that the overtones in the cymbals seemed to suggest...then i improvised the guitar solo, then the solo fretless. the last step was to go thru the other things Fran the drummer recorded that day, find some interesting meaty chunks, turn them into loops, and place them through out the piece for accent and motion...the final step being the added ambience of sitar and synth pads which were produced using the playable keyboard function in Garage Band....

So...a little music for rest, or romance or prayer...

the flow
i really like the flow. kinda gives the impression of Jeff Beck doing a inspired piece of 1983 A Mermaid I should turn to be/Moon turn the tides from electric ladyland

very cool

Journey
Love this rambling mystical stuff. Just mellows you.... Smooth percussion holds it together nicely. Very different and very engaging guitar work.

Thanks

Enjoyed immensely...
The bass is superb... the guitar meanders, as does the percussion and backing instruments... has a nomadic feel to it that I really like. Excellent work!

Very Cool...
Reminds me of some of the Eastern influenced work that Derek Trucks takes on occasion. Has a very nice ambience.

Need a genre for 'ceiling gazer'
I understand insomnia all too well ... though mine hasn't been too bad in the last few years. Maybe I'll do a new version of Dream Angus for you.

Anyway, this is really nice. There's a lot going on, but it pulls your imagination in and allows it to drift. The drone is really nice ... subtle and moving in and out of consciousness on different instruments.

I had no idea
Shoe Gazer was a genre... shows how little I know. You know I love your playing but this is possibly the most innovative work I've art I've heard from you... and Fran's percussion is absolutely amazing- maybe you guys should get into the loop creation business on the side..?

Great stuff, my friend. You are a world class guitar hero and person!

very nice
shoegaze is one of my favorite genres and this is a perfect example of it. tranquil and reflective, but enough movement to keep it engaging. lots of emotion in this piece - the percussion is incredible and your guitar workings over the top are just perfect. thank you for sharing this.

ECM Fan here too
This brings to mind a great recording by sax player Jon Garbarek and guitar player Ralph Towner(ECM)
Record name...'dis'...translated...mist
they use a wind harp located on the shore and it catches the wind and the players played to the windmonies(thats a made up word combining wind and well...da)my bad

This is way cool
i love this kind of creativity
great stuff going on
i love the sitar stuff in there
If you like spontaneously born music scapes another band (including Ralph towner on guitar I mentioned) is 'Oregon'
some real great stuff

One of my favorites to sleep to is Miles Daviss'...'Lonely Fire' from BIG FUN/Sitar and Percusion driven
I can send it along if u want send me a note

I enjoyed this a lot/ thanks for sharing
sweet guitar and bass
the live percussion loops and mixing r very well done
peace

There you are.
This is sweet and flavorful. Getting a little Mclaughlin spaciousness and fire blendid with some lush pseudo-slide Derek Trucks sounding guitar.

This was quite enjoyable.

Cool
Pink Floyd kinda vibe to this one. Very open and crystalline sound to this one. Sounds great. Relaxing indeed. The chinese cymbal may be a tad loud in spots if relaxation is your aim though. If not it is fine. Enjoyed it.

very cool well put together piece of music here, the flow and movement was enough to keep it moving at a good pace but still calm and peaceful with a sense of timelessness. enjoyed thoroughly.

Meditative and beautifully done
I followed a comment trail here and was richly rewarded: drumming is really engaging and listenable and I really enjoy your playing of the fretless and fretted strings: it reveals a deep comfort with space and lack of structure that I envy!
