Description
Song in commemoration of H. P. Lovecraft's death...

Howard Phillips Lovecraft (August 20, 1890 – March 15, 1937) was an American author of horror, fantasy, and science fiction, known then simply as weird fiction.

Lovecraft's major inspiration and invention was cosmic horror; the idea that life is incomprehensible to human minds and that the universe is fundamentally alien. Those who genuinely reason, like his protagonists, gamble with sanity. Lovecraft has developed a cult following for his Cthulhu Mythos, a series of loosely interconnected fiction featuring a pantheon of human-nullifying entities, as well as the Necronomicon, a fictional grimoire of magical rites and forbidden lore. His works were deeply pessimistic and cynical, challenging the values of the Enlightenment, Romanticism, and Christian humanism. Lovecraft's protagonists usually achieve the mirror-opposite of traditional gnosis and mysticism by momentarily glimpsing the horror of ultimate reality.

Although Lovecraft's readership was limited during his life, his reputation has grown over the decades, and he is now commonly regarded as one of the most influential horror writers of the 20th century, who together with Edgar Allan Poe has exerted "an incalculable influence on succeeding generations of writers of horror fiction".Stephen King has called Lovecraft "the twentieth Century's greatest practitioner of the classic horror tale." Lovecraft
This is stunning.
Absolutely brilliant.
I've only read bits of H.P Lovecraft but he is a big influence on a lot of artists.
The band Rudimentary Peni's LP Cacocophany draws heavily on Lovecrafts work.
If this doesn't get used for a horror film then it really should be.
Send it to Stephen King
Great stuff

Well - that's a
mighty work Peter.
I like a good horror story myself (especially Stephen King). Thanks for the interesting facts - must look up his stories.
This conveys the concept of evil magnificently - could easily be a soundtrack. Great production.
Cheers

Call Of Cthulhu
What a jolly tune. I love it. A bleak textured landscape with a Welsh slate sky. A dark pit of despair out of which belches forth sounds from the very bowels of the earth.

Greetings. Like the
dark brooding symbolism.....(or is that cymbalism) in the intro to this. I have read some Lovecraft and it is bleak innit? But I do dig the creatures that he introduced and the fact that gods may not necessarily be the 'right ' shape. This is appropriately sinister......and not at all humorous.

Ifyou like Horror/Music inspirations try Alan Parson's Project "Tales of Mystery and Imagination" based on Poe's stories. Jarvoid

Thanks!
Thanks for the listen - yes, Lovecraft's "gods" do not obey the same geometric laws as the rest of us.

Wow, what production!
Dig the vibrato-ish opening, guitar or keyboard? I can't tell. Great concept. Well executed.
Smokey Bacon Jr. Great name! You mean our crappy American culture of fast food excess has invaded Wales!
I might add that you look uncannily the same as an old friend form college. He's a musician too. Go figure! When I first saw your photo, I thought it was really him.

nice work on the sound stage
thanx for the lovecraft lesson as well. I lived in Tampa a few years back (well like 93 till 99) and there was a hip tecno band out of Tampa called lovecraft.. they were a couple of dead heads that met on the grateful dead circuite and ended up in tampa writing and playing raves.. had a geat following for about two yrs until the smack put the brakes on them.. there is a Tommy who (tommywho.com) who played second keys for them who still has a few samples of their music on the web.. WHY am I telling you this ?? dunno. I thought since your a fan of the writer that you`d give them a listnen as well.. this piecs was nice and dark.. it felt SCAREY!! good use of reverb yet not TOO much like some people use it.. your guitar work is great!! are they your vocals or are they samples??

thanx its a nice break from the usual , this piece could be put to video easily... if you ever make a video for this send me the post!!

Thank you
Thanks for the comment on the sound stage, it's something I work very hard at creating. I will try and track down the people you mention. I have been toying with doing a flash video. Maybe this is the tune to use. Thanks!

A great tribute...
I'll never forget "discovering" Lovecraft in my late 20s; I only wished there were more of his writings after I read everything! You capture that atmosphere that Lovecraft created so well in writing--great job!
