Marfa Lights w/Paddler

Description
Richard Paddler is a composer, musician and MacJammer I really admire. He has for long resided at the top shelf of my music collection and I feel privileged and and joyful to be able to present a collab with him!

This is based on a project I started in March 2004 - five years ago. A guitar track and bass track. I never completed the project, probably went out of ideas of how to proceed.

Since then it has been residing on a couple of different, and successively larger, hard disks. I love hard disks; the sound tracks remains exactly as they were.

Recently I rediscovered the project and felt it had some qualities, so I asked fabolous paddler if he could give it a go. And he did.

Paddler added lyrics, vocals, Rhodes piano and Hammond!

Finally I gave it a mix, (Richard you told me not to hesitate to do anything I like with it .. and yes I've moved piano clips around and things alike).

Richard refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marfa_light for those who, like me, had no idea of what marfa lights are.

That B3 is so cool
The cool leslie rotation effect is marvellous. Very nice addition to the song. Not that the rest of the song isn't good, cause the warm and good feelings are all over this piece. To my surprise I noticed I had not put myself as a fan on your profile paddler... that is corrected now:)

This is a cool and great sounding collab, and it must be nice to bring this one to live again Johannes.

So rich, like
a good cup of coffee. This warms you from the inside out. I loved all the instruments but damn, the singing was impressive. That organ bit was bluesy and rocking at the same time. Oh yeah! Thanks, guys.

Lovely stuff guys
It's always great to see a Curry collab - there haven't been that many!

As far as the playing and performance goes, this is fantastic - production wise I'm finding it too compressed (imagine me saying that - of all people) - a little too hard on the ears, most noticeable on Curry's guitar at the start of the B3 section, but pretty well through the song.

The Marfa Lights have always fascinated me, like a lot of supernatural stuff, and this is a good nod to that phenomenon.

So easy on the ears!
Two of my all-time favorites and I am not disappointed. Nice combination of guitar and keys and attitude. Johannes, your guitar has a signature sound that rings through even the powerful B3! It is a lovely sound. Richard must love it too, he has learned to dance to it. Nice collab.

Marfa Lights
I've seen the Marfa Lights and even trekked across the Marfa Basin to try to get closer and sat on the tarmac of the defunct airforce base at night. I grew up in West Texas and heard stories all my life. I went in '74 when they were more of a nuisance to the locals. Now there is a rest stop a historical marker- pretty much a sign telling people where to view them and even a Marfa Light Festival or something. I remember thinking that if one approached me I would be pretty much helpless. Some buds and I were camping in the Davis Mountains and I heard a sound that I curdled my blood and I thought that it may have been a Bigfoot or a panther- likely a panther... the next day we rolled my daddy's pick up truck and totaled it. I was laying in the bed of that truck and it pert near killed me. Well, this isn't much about the song, but I thought of this while I was listening.... which I like a lot, by the way. Thanks for the tour.

excellent account..
i must admit i'm a bit of a sceptic when it comes to various paranormal phenomena - but am also a sucker for camping at and exploring haunted or strange places and find the unknown very inspiring.while trying to keep anchored to the ground.RG

I think this turned out awesome....
I love the vocals on this, Richard... On my headphones the blend of your voices is furry and smooth and spooky by turns... all in a good way...

I love the "half of what we know" section... I think the keyboards nicely match Johannes' guitar and bass stuff... And the ride out at the end with the guitar and B3 is awesome squared.... Reminding me once again of Traffic...

Listening on my Sennheisers, I'm not hearing the overcompression that Neil is hearing... It's plainly compressed and very even, and perhaps that's evident on the percussive bits as the B3 comes in, but in addition to Traffic I also hear that Steve Stills influence right there, and I don't think Steven ever met a compressor that could scare him off...

I really love this, guys...

Very Nice
What a great sounding and clear mix. The double vocal effect works really well here. Overall the whole effort is so tastefully done. I do wonder if the bass is maybe a bit muddy and overpowering at times. Love the breakdown with just the guitar and then the run with the organ to the end. Tasty!

Fine collab
Who better than to have Paddler to collab with. I've always been impressed with his music and to mix that in with one of my all time favorite MJ musicians makes the expectation greater. Just to let you know... Expectations met. Very melodic, ear candy through and through. Vocals spot on. Thanks for intermingling.

If I could only remember...
Johannes = a constant inspiration for range, exploration, inventiveness with every tune. But Richard? Oboy, now I need to do some catch-up because you're perfect in this and I JUST discovered you with this collab.

This takes me back to things I used to mellow-out to like Crosby/Nash, for example their early post CSNY LP, "If I could Only Remember My NAme," if you remember that. It's the clear vox, the crystalline acoustic guitars...

De-lightful, mystical
I'm back and have to add some new thoughts. I've heard about the lights... there seems to be an intelligence behind them... one of thos "don't ask" phenomena like crop circles and "visitors." About the music, well, it's absolutely up to the task of tackling the msical, but in a very organic, earthy way.

So well done, so downloaded--thank you.

Gald to have found this
.....eventually. This illustrates the power of collaborating. You're both top rated Mac Jammers in my book and the sum of you together is mind blowingly good.
I'd never heard of Marfa lights either!
