Description
The North Coast Symphonic Band (Astoria, Oregon) performs Harlem Nocturne on March 15, 2009. The piece is arranged by my favorite jazz arranger and valve trombone specialist, Bob Joiner. In this performance, Bob Joiner conducts his own arrangement and gives permission for this post on Macjams.

Awesome
Great stuff, I am brand new to this site and im not honestly to into jazz but I do know talent when I hear it. I was really impressed with the harmony's in the song, makes me wish I knew my music theory better.

awesome in many respects...
It is very exciting to hear a contemporary composer get his music performed and recorded live, and posted for others to hear, woohoo Bob Joiner! Love the brass writing, but then, what do you expect from a trombonist? Fun piece of music, really nicely written, and wonderfully performed! Although jazz isn't my strong point, this was very enjoyable. Thank you for sharing this with us, J & B!
ttfn,

Fabulous!
My compliments to Mr. Joiner, the band, and you for arranging, playing, and posting this wonderful tune. I must have 20 versions of Harlem Nocturne and this will take its place among them. Interestingly (to me anyway), this SOUNDS like a band (maybe a concert-in-the-park band) as opposed to the smoke-filled club jazz sound of most other versions. Whatever, the tune stands up. Thanks.

Yes, this is a 28 year old community band in Astoria, Oregon. Bob performs in clubs too. I'll post his bio in another message. You can view youtube performances from the same concert (featuring too many trombones) at:
