Beautiful Day

Description
This song is pretty much the same formula as most of my work only with more upfront vocals and a little slower. My voice feels so naked in this. I'm trying not to worry too much about it these days and I'm just letting it go. Liberating actually.

Another song about my daughters (2 and 5). It picks up at the end quite a bit - I just can't help myself!

Yeah it is kind of like 2 songs. I had to import those drums for the fast part as a aiff because it's also a way different time signature. Came out alright. Thanks for giving this one some time Mike.

Definite
Oasis groove to it, and you're a better singer too. Great song Nick. I would have liked it to build to that finish a bit sooner and gradually, maybe have the distorted guitar come in on the second verse as a shadow to the rhythm acoustic. It's still a great song well sung and produced.

Voice doesn't sound naked at all, in fact it sounds fine and in good balance with the backing..... nice lyrics and overall sound..... unexpected 'exhuberance' at the end LOL, but great sounds in there and a great finish, cheers M

I'm not really worried about the vocals it's just a new avenue for me to put them so upfront - I need to do it more often because it just helps make the song. I love the description of weird for the end - spot on.

the lyrics were very much a last minute thing for this song. I almost gave up on most of my recent songs because I was having trouble writing and performing the vocals - then suddenly -- there they were! Weird how music works.

Nice tune bud. I like the 'naked' vocals. Really open and sparse. The upp-ed notches at the end were a shock, but I understand better than most bending to those urges. This one didn't need it though. It can stand on it's own in the glare of day. Great work.--P

The idea for this song was taken from an old song I played in a friends band. I have no idea if the chords are the same and the structure is definitely different but it had that jump at the end and it was a blast to play! So I guess that's how I gauge a good song - how much fun it is to play.

Yeah I think I figured out how to use my voice well enough in the last month. Doesn't concern me much now. I used to not show people at work or other friends my songs because my voice bothered me - These days I show everyone willing to listen.

Both sides of this song are cool. The raw and well delivered acoustic side is utterly believable and identifiable. That's hard to do and you did it so I wouldn't worry at all. You nailed it. The electric part is cool, I really like the elec guitar work on the second (less rhythm) guitar. The only constructive crit (if you wanted that) I could add is the change is a little jumpy, probably because of the time change and the imported aiff, and the feedback at the end is a little thin and off... Which is a tough deal because it's not like you can easily control that. Just sayin' I like it but it would have more power if it were a little more resonant. I guess what I'm thinking is normally feedback like that is influenced by the other instruments, especially the bass probably coaxes it into conformance.... but I assume you did this in an empty room, and there was nothing else making it ring, so it wasn't coaxed like that. Anyway, it's good like it is don't get me wrong. Just trying to "add something" and it's hard with such a great song. If it were mine I wouldn't bother, honestly. It's good like this. I envy the state of having the music "just happen" for you right now. Ride it out!!!

I love your comments - you are probably the most descript MacJammer ever :) I didn't know that Garageband allowed for the time change within the song, I'll see what I can do to smooth it out. I had troublr getting it to fix and eventually just accepted it. The feedback at the end took me the same way after I first recorded it - it felt too weak or low. I tried to record a few times and without making my neighbors hate me because of the noise I just took what I had. I may try to beef it up on the next mix also.
Thanks for the suggestions, my music is certainly far from perfect and I love to hear what others hear.

Sometimes after 3 hours or so trying to get it "right" you're like "hey that was pretty good, print it!" No need to be perfect by any means. My feedback is only intended to give you something to consider if you want. I get some feedback like that sometimes and it's like "yeah, I know... bummer huh. oh well!". I am enjoying your track list that's all I can say that really counts. Waiting for the next!

Very slick..
.. great sound in the first half. Like the snare coming in on the second verse, giving a little weight to the sound. Strong vocal and a really warm acoustic guitar sitting perfectly in the mix.
I believe GB now caters for tempo changes? There is a slightly uncomfortable jump to the more raucous part but the guitar work is really great. I like the feedback squeal that intros the distorted guitar.
Top work all round. One for the ipod.

my kids are in another state for the better part of this year so most of my time is spent thinking of them (they are 2 and 5). I'll be working on the song soon to improve it in a few parts.

hey man I hear the Oasis vibe too (minus the sneering). Really like the chord choices - very 70's AM, and I dig that sound so... You get a nice tone out of your acoustic and I like the rock out at the end too with the wah distortion and as GuyGrooves mentioned you bring it back in nicely. I've got a daughter too (6yr old) - she's the coolest person I've ever met so I definitely get where you're coming from here. If you get a chance check out "You've Got Soul" by Sam Bisbee - very very cool father/daughter tune.

its funny, originally I thought the lyrics were the weakest link but looking back it's one of the stronger points as it has been suggested by others here. It'll be cool to have this song for my kids in the future.
