A Silver Lining

Description
I made this one with the Zebra and Albino soft synths, played around with some African Voice settings and Logic's Space Designer.

I'm really not so sure of the genre. Maybe it's a "worldy" thing, I don't know.

Anyway - have a listen if you desire. Hope you like it. :)

Couldn't sound better.
It's a short piece, but it's the perfect length for what you've done here. Very tight and articulate arrangement. The slightly askew bass line ties it down but leaves plenty of freedom (if that makes any sense). Love that Albino sound. Again, I am feeling envious of your production skills. Damn, man! This inspires me.

Thanks!
The bass was intended to bring this into "beat" territory [whatever that is!] but I decided to leave it as an "ambient" number. It seemed the right thing to do. But I like the insistence of the bass, again, it seems to fit. My missus likes this one too, for a change!

I've just discovered "Safe Harbor". Missed it somehow. I have to say, your own production skills are not so bad either, and I know what you mean about unruly synths!

Thanks again.

Hi Davajonah.....
I like this from a sounds point of view and also from the Ambient nature of the mix.

I also use Zebra 2 and so can hear these sounds coming through very well. I also enjoyed the Albino sounds too.

Take care.

Thank you.
Yes both lovely synths, which seem to me to offer more than any in Logic itself! They seem somehow more organic. And I've merely scratched the surface...

If only I could do this full time! Paying the bills gets in the way, alas. :-)

Chilled
This is a very relaxing tune, love those African voices they really fit. Lovely soundage with an interesting bass line. It is a world music song i reckon.

All the tunes I know are of this world! So I guess I could call it that. :-)

Thanks for listening and your comments.

The sound
bed fits the voices perfectly - love the way it builds to them. I love Space Designer - always playing around with it.
Wonder what they are singing about? Enjoyed this Dave.
Cheers

Thanks Len!
"Keewah, keewah" means, in Swahili, "Eat raw eels" and the response, "aHemm" [note the emphasis on the "h"] is the traditional response, which, roughly translated, means "No way! Boil them first!"

Honest.

I don't think
that can be correct Dave - I know for a fact that they prefer them 'jellied'.

Yes, boiled and not jellied. Take no notice of Len. Jellied eels are a delicacy [and one of acquired taste I might add] from down in Cockneyland. He should know better. ;)

Have you never
heard of Johnny N'danga's Pie & Mash shop in the Mile End Road. You must try his liquor complete with thumb indentation in the mash.
Some people have just not lived.

Thank you
I like the way things evolve as you are making them! I never really start a tune with an idea, but usually just a sound. I never know how it will end and I'm jealous of people who can have the bigger picture in their head and can then produce it. That's composition really. I just play around, but I like doing it.

Thanks again for listening!

Love your sounds Dave
I always enjoy the very first bars of a new song of yours - always a surprise. Clean, clear sounds abound. The bass adds a slant to the imagined beat of the first bars, and works really well (although there is a missed opportunity there as well - turning that bass line around could have brought in some very interesting ideas). The vocals are a treat! How'd you fit all those people into your tiny studio?
;)

Terrific stuff!!

Thanks Neil
The Swahili choir, fortunately, are from the little known N'danga tribe and are all less than three feet tall. It was thus relatively easy fitting then all into my "morning room" studio, which, as you quite rightly point out, is tiny.

My wife is not happy however. I've used up all her tights in making pop-shields and there are no longer any coat hangers in the wardrobe upstairs. Her wrath is a small price to pay for my art.

Wow, Man!
I really like your music! I was about to say you even keep improving, but having a quick listen to Templeton's Retreat, makes me hesitate. So instead: You keep posting stuff of the highest quality, and I love it! Thanks!!!

Well thank you
Really! If you like the music, I can send you a CD if you'd like! Full audio, much better than MP3. Let me know anyway, and thanks again Henke. I really appreciate your support.

Wow, that's a nice offer!
But I'm not sure I could/should accept. I'm not really an audiohile (?) to notice the difference, I'm afraid, and I just about always listen on the computer anyway. However, if your music is/were available for download in, say iTunes store, I wouldn't mind buying it.

Even if good quality of a music file can enhance the listening experience, I think there must be something else to make music "good". Just listen to the Beatles or something... Or to davajonah. Yeah, I think your music has got it too, that quality which makes it very much worth while to listen to, even if it's ambient music in mp3/256 format... So thanks again for sharing your great music here!

/Henke

what a perfect title
started listening to this on speakers and was hearing this very faint "heartbeat" type sound that was just VERY cool under the moving sparklies and twinkles. but i couldn't really tell what it was so i ran to get my headphones and now i hear this awesome, seemingly erratic bass line that really, in all its unexpectedness, creates a very subtle, soothing beat underneath it all. i am SO glad i had the headphones on for when the choir came in. this just filled them up and swirled all around me. beautiful, uplifting piece. and just let me say that i eagerly read all the history of this piece and the N'danga choir of 3ft tall eel-eaters. absolutely fascinating. sorry to hear about the troubles with your wife and her tights, but i have to agree this work of art was worth it. excellent piece.

Haha!
Yes, the Swahili choir! [In reality, both Logic "Voices" setting. I tweaked the eq a little and applied some pan on either voice.]

Actually, I'm off down to London this weekend, so I may take a trip to Johnny N'danga's Pie and Mash cafe on the Mile End Road, as Len suggests. I tried jellied eels once and it was not a pleasant experience I can tell you, so I might just have the mash. :-)

Thanks for listening Kassia, and for reading the rambles too! Your comments are very kind.
