Conception
I played five years in a PuertoRican band, and that
style never left me. I was playing brass during that time. All the California bands were hot during that time also. So that is my influence. The first version needed cleaning up, and I wanted to add brass. I am glad you enjoyed the project.

youve
got this feeling very natural, ive heard a few things about this imogen heap project, but this is the 1st version ive actually listened to. The percussion is spot on, and the brass sounds really good. is that some midi guitar i hear in there? im really starting to like the way that comes out!

Midi Guitar
You just can not hide that MIDI guitar slow attack. What the problem is with MIDI guitar is the notes overlap making the strike on the note sound soft instead of the crisp attack of the pick. I use the midi guitar when I am putting a quick project together. You can hear the difference between the overdrive guitar (midi) and the electric (real) just by the crispness. Originally I put this together over a weekend. The original version is posted here, I then cleaned up some percussion and bass issues, added the brass hence the finished version.

Thanks for your encouraging comments!

Never was
This is really cool. Groovin beat gets you moving from the very start. The song is very well arranged and a beautiful and varied choice of instruments come and go throughout. And the vocals are, in a word, awesome! Love the harmonies too! I am glad I checked out the music page tonight. Thank you for sharing this excellent work.

Although I haven't submitted my own arrangement
I did have my own ideas about the harmonies that ought to be in the vocal accompaniment. This is different, but, makes lots of sense. Then, the rhythms are great - you add so much energy to the vocals. I especially like what you did with the bridge. The brass is a great addition, and the guitar solos are a nice touch, too. I love it. I'm back for more, since I listened before when I wasn't signed in. (I don't sign in on my work computer - just listen as a guest.)

Glad you stopped by
Thank you for noticing all the addition I put into the project. I worked around the vocals with this style, and did not try to mold the vocals to fit the genre. I guess all those years in band made a difference.

Never No More
PSR, darkburst front pup, tone rolled off, Marshall 50 watt with tone set down to one half and air to move, will nail the guitar tone you are looking for here. You know this is good. You know this is a wonderful arrangement. Smile and enjoy! Thank you for sharing your gifts with us!

Marshall
Back in the day I used a Roland JC120, with a Shure mic placed at the back to get that dark sound, tone rolled back. Thanks for the smile!

amazing
holy crow, you have the best vocalists working with you!! I'm working my way backwards through your catalog and these vocalists are ON!!! are they this good on early takes? i want to acheive this level of slick production as a vocalist and these guys are forcing me to take a hard listen to my own vocals and raise my game. nuance is just as important as hitting notes in key to sell a performance and take the song to that higher level. that is where these guys shine. it is clearly what separates the pros from the wannabes. your production, songwriting, and arrangement as usual is top notch. i just wanted to say after hearing 3 songs that your guitar work is exceptional...lots of hooks...in that cuban "hooky" style (that i've heard Santana refer too). you deserve whatever accolades i can bestow from my humble keyboard. :)

correction
"nuance is as important as hitting notes in key" let me correct that statement...nuance is as important in selling an emotional, sincere performance as perhaps the big soulful note...look at the nuance of don williams or willie nelson as opposed to a sweeping vocalist like elvis or celine dion. they all get the job done. you believe...

Vocals
The vocals are from the British artist Imogen Heaps. She wrote the vocals for a movie but the song was never used and no music was written. She released her vocal track to the public so artist could add there own music. This is my interpretation of her vocals . . .
