Devil's tattoo

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
Nothing to do with devil's or tattoos really. For those who don't know the devil's tattoo is the rhythmic tapping of ones fingers on a table when bored ( hence the picture).
I was watching some rubbish on TV with a popular entertainer on it and the crowd was in fits of laughter and I couldn't see what was so funny and this led onto a feeling that so much that is 'offered' up as 'entertainment' leaves me cold.
Anyway, hope you like it

Lyrics
Mountains of mediocrity
Oceans of trite banality
I’m bored to tears
‘cos nothing that I see excites me

Fanfare for the common man
It’s the dulcet tones of an ice cream van
and everything that makes you smile
makes me wanna run a mile

I sit at the table drumming out the devil’s tattoo
Does the devil make work for idle hands to do?

Go on, impress me
You never fail to depress me
Your lack of original thought
brings me down

Well I’ve seen it all before
Repetition and so much more
And the world and his wife
are clapping out of time

I sit at the table drumming out the devil’s tattoo
Does the devil make work for idle hands to do?

Rock yeah!
Real attitude. And a helluva hook in that chorus.

Great performance with a groove I fell right into.

Great bass line! Love the *almost* clean single strumming on the guitar. Good song all around!

guitar
It's quite a 'simple' riff but I was hoping to get a sort of 'juxtaposition' with the guitars..and bass.
I think it worked ok.

Well painted emotion
Love the sentiment; Music is fresh, like the harmonies and the tone of voice. This is good.

Clapping out of time.
It's called the "white clap." Oh, man, your lyrics have captured much of what I bitch and moan about in my spare time. I'm not usually a fan of this kind of straight-ahead rock, but this is really a terrific production. I like it a lot. Infectious opening bass riff, well placed guitars, excellent vocals (with that unusual harmony part), tight drummming, and lyrics that actually say something interesting. Nice.

white clap
So that's what it's called. I don't know if it's because I'm musician that I get so mad at a crowd of people clapping out of time...and good to know I'm not the only one.
Straight ahead rock isn't my 'usual' style but was quite happy with the results.
It's an old song I just re-worked a bit.
Anyway, glad you liked it and thanks for dropping in.

Couldn't agree more
Sometimes I'm certain that popular culture is a taste I have not acquired. Reality shows are what baffle me - who cares if one person makes a bunch of other people feel small to sell soda pop? Nice production on this one Brendan - great guitar tone.

Glad it's not just me who feels like it.
Sometime when the whole crowd is laughing and getting involved you think it must just be me who doesn't 'get it'.

driving
this has a great upbeat, fun vibe to it. The song just drives forward. I love the howl at the end. This would be a hell of a fun song to hear live while having some drinks at the bar.
Your vocals sound great as always and fit this style well. Noce production on the whole thing.

duclet tones of an ice cream van
man great production - really grabs you from the first note. a classic rock structure with all the bases tagged but so well done it seems new. lyrics are spot on. love the howl lol.

I was sitting in the garden and heard the ice cream van go past and it just seemed to herald the common man.

Love it!
Really very good. Love the theme, love the mix and realllly love the vocal delivery. There's a bit of Jonny Rotten in there, I think. Maybe you could snarl the words even more - especially on the "Devil make work for idle hands" line.

Great instrumental break takes the song out of the norm, and there's some lovely guitar sounds going on here. Top notch!

Kingbee Stings!
This is one of the best songs I've heard on Mac Jams in a long time. Great lyrics, playing and singing.

The vocal reminded me of Roger Daltry, which is a good thing in my book. I would have liked to have heard a big time guitar solo in there, but all is well otherwise.

Thank you very much.
I was toying with a guitar solo but wanted to keep it short and sweet.

Great. Really like this one! It rocketh. Your lyrics are really good too, very tight imagery. The use of the drumming motif really works. Like the syncopated beat and piano solo. Like everything about it. Excellent.
