Description
Whisper to the Wind -
Music and Lyrics Written by - Steve Caustrita
Lead & Background Vocals and Arrangement - Morgan Robinson
Laid Back Guitar Solos - Fat Chance
Super Sexy Sax - Rego Owens
Steve Caustrita - Percussion, Bass, Guitar, Piano

Back in 82 I was playing in the S.F. Bay area. I hook up with two musicians trying to keep their Hippie days alive. We were playing small clubs and coffee houses.
What was so cool they loved originals. 400 miles away from my "X" childhood sweet heart, I wrote down the lyrics and melody. No one could seem to sing the dynamic range of the vocals, so we just talked the vocals while playing. After that time the song kept popping up, in various version. I was going to put it to rest until I heard Morgan! He has the range and the dynamic energy the song needed. We talk, and I put the project into his hands, and the rest is here.

Lyrics
Original 1982 Lyrics
(Inspired by Deborah A. Moore)

I'm going to whisper to the wind
Maybe she will hear me but maybe then
She may not be listening to the breeze
When I try to tell her please
Baby come back home to me

I'm going to whisper to the wind
Of how I needed a lover
And she only wanted a friend
All those silly games that we played
Were just all a masquerade
It didn't have to be that way

Changes, Changes, that we've been through
Yes I wanted, wanted to run your live for you
But I found out, found out, you had to be free
Now I'm whispering to the wind
Baby won't you please come on back to me.

(The remaining lyrics are lost in time)

This is !
easy to listen to, friendly, theme structure with what makes a song classic caliber material, in my inclination. when a voice came in out of now where and broke up the over all feeling. Though your dynamic vocals and quality comes thru strong and clear, it would be interesting to hear the lead vocal projected in a right up on the directional mic instead of a open all direction mic , which it sounds like that you recorded this with tune with a potential on..Or you were to far away from the mic. Or, or bring up in vol. a little to make it a little more present. The back up vox's are right on with this as they are but I think you could control the quality of your great voice and give a little more feeling of you into it with the other.

I hope you don't read wrong with this post, as I like this song and am taking a copy home with me, "cause it good". Let me know if you redo this. Guess I'll go check out what else you have.

I look forwards to your next post.

Comments

I am open to all comments, and you are correct about the vocals. First I'm not the vocalist. I play drums, bass, guitar, and keyboards. I am the writer of the Vocals and music. What happen to the Vocals? This song is a collaboration so at times the quality of the mix suffers as we bounce tracks back and forth by email.
The vocalist is Morgan Robinson, all vocals are sung by him. Your comments are all right, and thanks for pointing them out.

Very cool
Lovin this tune. Very tuneful, soulful in a Marvin Gaye vein. Love the singer and the melody. I've got it on and I'm playing along on my acoustic guitar. Love the vocals-lead and background, nice arrangement.

Excellent track!.

Way to go, Steve
a lovely tune and romance-friendly lyrics, sung quite well by your friend Morgan.
Does (or did) Deborah know about the song?
Cheers, Richard

Debbie
A year after we broke up she was engaged (1979). Shortly after she married. I moved to Northern California, 1980 and in 1982 I wrote the song. To my knowledge she never heard the song, although we have many mutual friends who are aware the tune.

Thanks for your comments

Commercial
Thank you for your wonderful comment, the music was written for play in small clubs, however the lyrical hook whisper to the wind is commercial. The deep feeling comes from a very sad young man . . .

Thanks for your comments. Rego did a outstanding job with the sax, I call it "Super Sexy Sweet Sax". This song took 27 years to complete because of complexity of the vocal line, with that I'm glad you enjoyed the project.

Very nice Steve. Morgan's vocals give this a great Motown Sound. Reminiscent of 70's Motown. Great clean mix. Love the sax and laid back jazzy guitar. Wonderful dynamic to this, great lyrics. I hope I can do your song this much justice. Whisper to the wind, Wow, excellent lyrics. Great job to you all.

Thanks for stopping by. I wrote this one 27 years ago, because of the dynamics and range of the vocals I could not get a finished track. I met morgan at icompositions.com he has what it takes to sing this song. As for "Life without you" you are already there!

just wonderful groove...

a throwback to the late sixties and seventies when the soulful motown sound was in its heyday with tight band instrumentals, silky lead vocal singing a love song, and those precise harmonic back up vocals ala the Stylistics, Temptations, etc. and of course a little Marvin sprinkled in. I really enjoyed this one. Kudos all around (especially to Rego on that sax).

Wind is Whispering Righteously
Steve classic RnB grooves are so welcome. Thank you for this piece. I dig your hand at arrangement, you have listened to the masters and learned. All I needed was some Skydog flavor on the outro and it would have been too much...back to rehab.

the very definition of easy listening
i can't even get through the first 30 seconds and i'm clicking the favorites with my mouse. this is the kind of pop i miss most. easy listening, soulful, rhythmic...i didn't even think about critiquing i just closed my eyes and drifted along with the track...hit replay, drift...repeat
