Lyrics
GLORIA

Her tired eyes lookin' in at me
Standing out in the pouring rain
She has no shame

I let her know just a year ago
That it could never be the same
And I took the blame

Gloria, Gloria, Gloria, Gloria

One last time I went outside
I made my heart as hard as stone
We stood alone

Don't know why when she has to cry
She just doesn't use the phone
She's wet to the bone

Gloria, Gloria, Gloria, Gloria

I used to die when I knew she lied
When I asked her where she'd been
But I'd let her in

Now I just sigh when I hear her cry
And wonder who has the greater sin
As I say goodbye

Gloria, Gloria, Gloria, Gloria

Nice
Very nice. I think the melody and vocal fit the guitar soundbed very well. Lyrics are great - very evocative and narrative, hinting at complex events in just a few lines, very cool. I also think the vocal performance is spot on, capturing the anguish of the protagonist. A really impressive approach to The Front Porch! Nicely done. Peace.

Your comments and critique are very much appreciated and respected. It really is amazing where a collaboration will lead you. Someone else's creativity mixed with your own and . . . Its something I would not have done alone.

Thanks,
Stephen

ah ha...

another child of the sixties music scene.... heheh me too. Loving this place you went to. A bit of Gordon Lightfoot. You really put a band around this guitar track. Kudos.

You da man!
I just got inspiration from your cool guitar track. I thought of cutting it up to get a lead verse, but then I'm so impatient! This sharing is what makes MacJams so great!
Thanks for the idea,

Funny, cause thats what I was hearing in my head, but it came out sounding almost Gordon Lightfoot. Thanks for your kind and encouraging words. I was really putting onto Jack's chords what I heard.

Thanks
The vocals are the hardest part for me lately. Lots of allergy and sinus stuff and then my voice is out of shape, but I squeeze out some notes every now and then. I am still learning the production side but I think I am getting better at that. The drums are tough, I have the greatest respect for drummers as even doing just the bass and snare drum alone gets me into fits even when I know what I want to play. But this kind of song is the real me. My style, my kind of songwriting, etc. I really was driven from Jacks guitar and the song just tumbled out.

Thanks again,
Stephen

Nifty!

Ah, you have unlocked the Gordon Lightfoot formula for me! Very cool song collaboration. Sounds like a few of the porch musicians got signed and are now doing concerts at the Hampton Town pavilion. Tapes and LPs for sale at the folding table at the rear of the commons (by the dirt parking lot).
sschedra said 3111 days ago (April 12th, 2009)
Exactly
I was trying to go Neil Young, but you are right, it just says GL. I thought the same thing once I heard the way it lay out there. There is a rumor that the song title is actually G.L.O.R.I.A. That is, Gordon Lightfoot Original Rip-off, In Action (LOL). I had a blast with it. It does show however that we are always linked to those artists that shaped our own artistry.
Thanks for stopping by Richard,
Stephen

Thanks. We children of the sixties are just that, children (LOL). So, our hippie blood and style are never far from the surface are they? I see you are in to the folk instruments. I have a lot of roots there too. We'll have to get together some time.

Thanks a lot. I put down most of my bass lines through the midi keyboard as the levels and sound come out so much better than if I plug the bass in. Its probably half laziness, half lack of knowledge, but the results are ok. I try to play bass lines I would actually be laying down with the bass.

Excellent ..

.. quite a big porch you got there Stephen! ;o) I love the chorus .. those high "Gloria"'s with the harmony are top notch ..and I like the way it comes out of the chorus too. Fine lyrics for the verses too. 60s instrumention serves this well .. could be given a more modern rock band sound too. Reminds me of "The wreck of the Edmund..." in the verses at times and the Kinks overall... and well,
you can't go wrong with those influences. Enjoyed it very much.

Great Job
You are one heck of a guitartist. Great songwriter. Love the tone and feel of this song. Listened to this atleast 10 times when I found it. It's a sixties feel with modern overtones that could be played today and enjoyed by many for years to come. Great job

How Young are you?
This has a really strong Neil Young feel to it, which is good in my book... love the melody-line in this, and excellent lyrics. Nice touch of bells in the background, and the chorus is awesome, as is the singing and harmony. There is a strange warble in the recording at times that is lightly distracting, not sure if that is the mp3 player, or in the mp3 itself, possibly an artifact of altering the tempo/pitch? Amazingly ingenious take on Jack's Front Porch session.

The vocals are me, but the guitar is Jack the originator of "The Front Porch" challenge. We were to make a piece using his guitar part and this is what I came up with. Other artist's interpretation are here http://www.macjams.com/artist/The_Front_Porch
