The Frog & the Scorpion

Description
this is an experimental demo.

I wrote this song and recorded it not too long ago after arriving back in the states from india. it was there that i heard the story of the scorpion and the frog.

a scorpion travels down from the mountain wanting new scenery and must cross a river. he finds a frog and asks the frog to take him across. the frog asks "how do i know you wont sting me?" and the scorpion replies "we'll if i sting you we both die." the frog questions him more and finally he is convinced he can make it safely to the other side of the river. half way across the frog feels a pain in his back and before they both drown, he asks the scorpion "why did you do that?" the scorpion replies "its my nature."

i related to this story, and the song, while fun, is actually quite sad!
the poor scorpion cant help himself!

there is only one guitar track, one vocal track, and a vibraphone software instrument achieved awkwardly with musical typing on a macbook keyboard.

id like for there to be a cello track 2 measures before and during the vibraphone tracks in the intro and the transitions back to the verses.

Lyrics
The Frog & The Scorpion

My amphibian friends
we wont make it
we wont make it to the other side of this river
on your back
my promise i'll take back
im a scorpion
its in my nature to sting
poison and pain i will bring you
with a bouquet of flowers that have died

we will die
though i tried to keep us alive
no wait please don't die on me!
damnit!
wait please don't cry!
damnit!

my amphibian friends
i will sink but you swim
and i think i've learned my lesson again
im just a scorpion gal
looking for a frog pal
to fill these lonely days
hand in hand
pinky swear
you pick truth
i'll pick dare
and you'll make me promise to change my ways
but this stinger it always gets in the way
no please don't walk away from me!
damnit!
and you've got nothing to say to me?
damnit!

my amphibian friends
we won't make it
we won't make it to the other side.

great song!
This is a really nice song! Great demo. did you record the guitar and vocal at the same time? They sound really together. If you are going to re-record this, you might position the mic a little closer, and if you only have one mic, record the guitar and then record the vocal. There's a sort of boxey sound which I think is caused by not having the mic close enough to the sound source. I don't think you need to add too much to this because the charm of it is in your fresh delivery of the marvelous story. But I do like the vibraphone.
I'd just read the story of the frog and the scorpion in the past week or so, somewhere I don't recall, so it's such a coincidence. Neat!

thank you! if you like psychedelic folk look up arborea!

this song just sort of came together spontaneously after a lot of brainstorming about the story.

thank you for listening and your encouragment.

appreciate it, merci!

i recorded the guitar first and then the vocals, i'll take the advice! thank you.

hmm, good point, not too much needs to be added. yes, and i think the vibraphone adds to the humor a little.

and yes, wow, what a coincidence!
