Never Let You Down

Description
This song was the last one I recorded for the RPM challenge in Feb. I wrote, recorded and mixed this one all in one day just to see if I could pull it off. Pretty standard formula but seems to work fine. It's got one of those mini epic endings I like so much lately.

Lyrics
Never Let You Down

I keep a picture of you
I wish you knew
Just what you meant to me
Don’t always have the words to say
I need you today
I’ll always give you everything

It’s these emotions I can’t hide
I always want you by my side

Don’t turn around, don’t walk out on me
I’d be the poorest man in town
I’ve been around, seen all there is to see
And I wont let you down

In this space you’ve built a wall
I can see you at all
I don’t know why you hide
To me you’ve always been a friend
This can’t be the end
It’s somewhere we’ll find it

I’ve never felt so right
Lets spend another night

Don’t turn around, don’t walk out on me
I’d be the poorest man in town
I’ve been around, seen all there is to see
And I wont let you down

It’s these emotions I can’t hide
I always want you by my side
I’ve never felt so right
Lets spend another night

Don’t turn around, don’t walk out on me
I’d be the poorest man in town
I’ve been around, seen all there is to see
And I wont let you down

This song just seemed easy to record for some reason. I guess that's what happens when you do nothing but music for a month.

Thanks for listening.

Spectacular
for a day for sure!!! Clean, crisp guitars on the intro.

The vocals are gorgeous... At first they seemed a bit too far back and maybe they are but they fit the song really well.

Overall this is really great! Nicely done!

voacals
Well mixing was never my strong point. The vocals are a little back now that I listen again - just right on the border. We should have a challenge here, complete a song from conception to finish in one day.
Thanks for stopping by Mark.

one day
Yeah just one day on this. As you can tell I didn't reinvent anything here. Simple and straight to the point - guitar flair and all.
Thanks Russ!

Nice Nick
More laid back than some of your previous post, which is a nice change up.

Good pop sensibility. Catchy. A little Grern Day-ish at points.

Great post.

radio
We really only have country radio around here so this wouldn't fly in my parts. Pop sensibility - great concept. I actually haven't listened on headphones yet, glad it sounds alright.
Thanks Vic

too modest
Mixing was never your strong point?
You jest surely !!
This sounds fantastic..especially considering you did it in a day.
Love the vocals.
have you got an effect on them?
Really strong track
Deserves to be on the radio for sure
Great stuff

mixing
OK, wasn't my strong point, I'm learning a little better now. The studio monitors help a lot (even if they are pretty cheap). The vocals have some standard GB effect on them (vocal reflection). I probably mixed in some compression as well. Look out radio.
Thanks Brendan.

In one day
God created the heavens and Earth. In on day Nick created his own little piece of heaven in this song.

Wonderful clean mix my friend, with nice production values and a great backing tracks. For my ears the vox could have been a little more out front in the mix, but then again, I am about half deaf.

Great job all around Nick, Kudos

I'm trying to write songs I can show my kids lately. A lot of my old stuff is inappropriate (or just too dang loud as my wife says). So with that in mind here come the love songs and such.

Thanks Gail

right
The quick ones sometimes just turn out so right. I think this one is one of those. At 2:40 it really seems to come all together,. The last set of harmonies and them into the solo, ramps you back down and then on up to the crescendo. Formulaic, yes, but it rings true non-the-less. Cool work Nick.--P

formulaic
Don't fix it if it aint broke. Making songs is fun no matter how you go about it. I've been needing to expand my genre a little and here is one result.

ready to roll
you've got a great ear for commercially viable tunes. that's not a slight in any way dude take it as a compliment - what I mean is that everything - your songwriting, playing, and singing, is spot on ready to roll to the nearest basketball stadium. how come you're not famous?

famous
Just being famous in the eyes of my kids works well for me. My recent work has been more an attempt at radio type music, I'm glad it's showing through a little.

Thanks,

one day
Yeah only one day, but I had not been doing much but writing music that whole month so I guess I had my practice in and this was the last piece.
It just goes to show that sometimes I try to hard and it doesn't necessarily get any better sounding when I do.
Thanks,

Always..
a good formula. The basics work wonders and this is a prime example when it all falls into place. I enjoyed this one, but I would like to see the "single" vox a bit louder in certain places in my opinion. Beside that Nick, sounds awesome!

Thanks for sharing! and the D/L!

vocals
I'm always very careful about not getting the vox too loud. After hearing a few comments I think I agree on the volume. I'll have to revisit the mix soon.

Thanks man.

Good vibe
great sound. Not bad at all for a 1-day (or 100 day for that matter). I wish I could do that! Kind of a paw-like sound I think, from one of their acoustic tracks on "Death to Traitors". Something about the harmony of the vocals with the rest of it makes me say that. You are definitely making the most of your time. I definitely envy you in some ways (but not others). As the blokes say, cheers.

Paw
I haven't heard from those guys in a long time. Yeah I've a little more time to spend on figuring my songs out but days like today make me wish it was over. December seems a long way off. All good though.

If you're in the mood
Check this out, if you remember?

http://www.lyricstime.com/paw-texas-lyrics.html

I don't know if you could find a copy in, you know, your closet or something.

You often have vibe like this song in your acoustic works. And paw was also cool at doing metal breaks in the middle of an acoustic song. I like the way they did "slept on my glove" (I think that was the name) on the same album. Really trippy light-acoustic type song that would just get metal for a couple seconds!! Then go back! I bet you'd like it if you haven't heard it. My band used to cover paw a bit. Gasoline! It was a fun song to do.
