Aural Variations #1 (The Periphery Mix)

Description
This mix is the first of what may become an 'occasional' series. It is Space Ambient, and so takes the listener outside the confines of the Earth's atmosphere.

The general ambience of the mix is 'on the edge' but on the edge of what, is up to you and your imagination. There is musical tension, but not terror, maybe mystery or unknown. It's up to you what you find.

The variation is both sound-wise and also the MIDI parts have been used elsewhere, almost certainly.

I'm interested in your thoughts and suggestions with this piece.

Very well done
Love the feeling of this. It is a little bit similar to some of the ethereal music used in 2001, but this has even more depth and variations in it. Makes me want to step out the air lock and take a walkabout.

Great track Rrinholt

Hi.....
Don't forget your spacesuit of you do go walkabout!!!!

Space Ambient to me is about setting the scene for being somewhere otherworldly, and if I made you think about 2001, then I think I succeeded.

Thanks for your kind thoughts.

Take care.

Hi Daniel....
You know what they say, 'If you have an itch you gotta scratch it' and my recent batch of tunes is the result. I think though that I'm slowing down now, as I haven't put together anything half decent since last week. I'm experimenting with all sorts of soft synths, trying to find a magic mix and not necessarily Ambient.

Who knows what will be uploaded next??

Take care.

Exploring
the boundaries of space and time can be so rewarding. I love the expanse and expression in this piece. Have you thought about adding the pulse of a pulsar gently just below the surface? Recently I have found three free soft synths which sound great. Automat http://www.dontcrack.com/freeware/downloads.php/id/3097/software/Automat/ Alpha http://www.linplug.com/Instruments/Alpha_3/alpha_3.htm Zebra which I got off Computer musics April 09 issue DVD. You may already have them but if not check them out.

Hi TBEsq.....
I have used these synths in the past, and have a registered copy of Zebra 2 which I use in most of my current mixes. It is a very powerful and interesting soft synth.

I'm always interested in what others think about my music and any suggestions are gratefully received. I'll be looking into this over the next few days.

Take care.

Endless Void
That is full of tonal colour. I get an almost hesitant quality to this piece as though exploring a place that is dangerous. Quite the immersive soundscape! Thanks,

Take care,
Doug

Hi Doug.......
I set 4 LFO's running, and allowed them to vary the oscillators/filters as I recorded everything. This seemed to be the best out of the bunch of mixes during the session.

Each time the recorder is activated, the mix that comes out it different, and probably not 100% reproducable.

The rest of the effect was produced in the final mix.

Take care.
