August Evening (mvh3591 master)

Description
Yep, more soaring music. This song's creation was inspired by the soundtrack from the sci-fi movie "Sunshine". And if you put 2 and 2 together, you have to come to the logical conclusion that I watched this movie...one evening last August! Also you may notice these song titles lately (on my more recent completions - this song is my most recent) are not named with a soaring theme. After "Groovy Glidin" my wife threatened to leave me if I named any more tunes like that (the song I am currently working on I originally titled "Rockem Sockem Soaring" - I guess I better come up with a different title before I release it!).

Anyway, for those of you who wonder if I am ever going to complete this project, keep in mind I needed to come up with over 60 minutes of music and this song puts me at 55 minutes. We hope to release this video by the end of summer so the end is certainly near. This project has not only been fun, but it has reminded me how much I absolutely love composing, and having a project like this to write for has been a tremendous experience. Presenting some of the music here at MJ has also been a very rewarding experience, and to those who have supported my endeavor - you have my heartfelt thanks! A super special thanks goes to Michael House, who takes time out of his own extremely busy life to master my tunes (I don't know how he does it, but I am sure glad he does!), so hats off to you my friend!!

Please have a listen and I hope you enjoy this piece. I am always interested to know what you, the discerning listener, think, so please let me in on your thoughts, good or bad, and as always, thank you for stopping by for a listen.

Hasta la vista.

Gorgeous...
Emotively lush beginning...Then that sparkling piano comes in and the sonic ascent begins...a leveling off as that magnificent electric guitar wafts along...Next a powerful sonic build-up yields another variation on the main theme with more soaring lead guitar riffs. Tune winds down beautifully...But SURPRISE! Comes back strong for one last assault on the emotions, and then nobly fades away.

Man O man is this good!

Be well friend!

Great song
D/L for sure. Mike is an amazing guy. I use his work to tune my ear for mixing and mastering, as I am just learning to use my tools. He is a pro in every sense of the word as well as a really cool guy. Awesome song Sigmund!!

Hey there Dave
I appreciate the listen and the nice comments. As of this time I have not done any collaborations, except for Michael graciously donating his time and talent to master my music. A collaboration might fun, once I complete my soaring music project.

Thanks for stoppin by Dave.

Excellent music, as always...
I shall get a nit-pick out of the way first... first, the little synthy-scratchy thing that shows up in a couple of places for a super-short time (first at 0:19) was fine but was off to the left in headphone listening and made things feel a little unbalanced (as I said, MINOR!) Otherwise, a very nice feel-good piece that makes me soa... oops, makes me glid.. uh, takes me to other places, effortlessly. Great work.

Drakonis

Hello Eduard
Thanks for stopping by to have a listen. The synth part you are referring to is actually part of the drum loop I used there. It was at the start and the end of the loop, which was way too much so I did some editing and used it only very sparingly. I thought it added a tiny bit of...well, something to the song - the problem with it is I can not control the pan without affecting the entire drum sound, so I am stuck there. I am glad you liked the tune and very much appreciate you listening and telling me what you think - take care -

I was SO gonna be first...
I got the email alert and said, "I'm gonna rush over and listen and be FIRST on this new post!" sigh...but I was wrestling with my choir and could not get my head away from that. So I'm 8th. Not bad! At least I got here before 2 weeks went by! ok and now...let's listen to this song...

Beautiful piano playing. Excellent guitar. Wonderful layering and pacing. All of the wonderful Sigmundisms I have come to expect.

BUT

I think, in many ways, this piece is very different. Of all the pieces you've posted so far, this definitely is the most "cinematic" feeling to me. It is also, for me, the most laid back and relaxed piece. On the other hand, it seems to me you did some experimenting here with new ideas. Your use of strings is wonderful. Combined with the soft synth backgrounds, this piece is incredibly rich and full sounding. The crescendos are beautifully executed, and the decrescendos just as beautiful. Those strings just SING.

My absolute favorite part of this song is starting right around 3:00. Coming out of the energy of the e-guitar into the gorgeous soundscape swirling around that sweet piano movement slowly fading into the long, soft synth notes. And then climbing again. This is a gorgeous song. Mike's mixing, as always, is perfect - really accentuating the right things at the right time.

This piece has more of a feel of introspection and remembering, as opposed to some of the more "moving forward" of your songs. Let me say again a couple things that I think I've probably said in all of my comments to you. Your sense of pacing and your use of fading are both absolutely superb. The way you bring the e-guitar and piano in and out of this (not to mention the strings and synths) is just stunning.

Having said all of that - and I can't believe I have the balls to even mention this since I just posted a song with a fade out ending - I really feel like this piece would be stronger with a solid ending. Maybe because it felt nostalgic to me, I was looking for some closure. It also feels very epic and the fade out seemed a little weak in comparison. But of course, this is all just my humble opinion. This song is fantastic and I am sincerely grateful for the generous download button. Thanks Sig!

Hey Shay
Well you have certainly outdone yourself this time my friend! All that incredible insight, and...Sigmundisms! I am floored - you are so amazing. Here are my thoughts on fading out. First I consider fade outs to be a significant part of a song - some things sound so cool fading out. No doubt you have noticed how an instrument's sound changes as a fade out executes. The reason I used a fade out in this song is for that reason - I thought the fade out gave the progression an interesting dynamic with which to end by.

Having said all that, my original plan for this song was to give it a definite ending, and I knew exactly what I was going to do. Oddly enough, the song itself seemed to have other ideas about that. So much so that I almost can't take the credit for writing the entire song because where some parts of it came from I have no idea. I was just there to put it in place, and for that I feel privileged.

Just as I feel genuinely privileged to call you my friend. Thank you Shay, and take care, until next time -

hovering
I kind of get a feeling of floating in the air... hovering, and looking at macjams from my place in the sky:)

Great composition and very elegantly put together... tasty choices all the way, and performed with gusto.

One thing I think gives it an early eighties sound is the drums. In particular the fills that reveal a midi sort of timbre... Maybe this is the sound you wanted to have... but if not, I'd recommend to look into the kind of drum loops coming from drums on demand or betamonkey.

But drums aside... You are one h... of a composer and musician:)

I'll have to rush and make myself a fan now, to get a notice when you post a new song:)

Thanks!

I will definitely check out the drum loops you mentioned and I do appreciate the tip, because I am striving for a natural drum sound most of the time, especially in the fills - thanks again.

it is the piano
the music begins. it is soft and breezy. the piano creates a mood of sunset and wine. perhaps the guitar creates a stronger mood. it suggests a martini. it is not a favorite drink. however, after another listen, it tastes good. it is powerful music. 0x0

sigh ... sigmund i seem to have bad karma about commenting on this song. first i listened but got distracted and forgot to comment. then i came back after talking to you, faved it AND commented, but i guess i goofed somewhere and the comment didn't show up, which was just pointed out to me by kassia. so here i am for the THIRD time (not that this fabulous song isn't worth multiple listens), to tell you how GREAT this song is! your creativity, and your competency with these synths just blows my mind. also, i feel like each song in this series gets better and better - this one is my fave so far. now, this comment had better POST!!
