Description
A reflective look back on the remembered idealism of youth as seen many, many years later.
This one has been in the works a month or two and it really didn't start to gel until I actually started recording it. With the exception of the chorus, the lyrics were written as I went. I also decided it was time I dragged out the accordion again, so there's a little bit of that sprinkled in.
Recording and mixing was all done in Logic Express. I'm getting more comfortable with it the more I use it.
And, yes, that's me in the photo.

Lyrics
When We Were Young
©2009 Joseph Gurner
When we were yong, the world spread out before us
full of wonder waiting to unfold
We had our dreams of where our lives would take us
there was nothing outside our grasp
When we were young, life seemed like forever
the days passed like years before our eyes
We spent our time dreaming of tomorrows
that would takes us so far, far away
We drank deep from sweet, sweet wine
while the stars moved above our heads
And we lived as if the moment’
would never end
We laughed beneath the winder moon
and loved beneath the summer sky
the world was ours back
when we were young
When we were young, our tears could fill the oceans
And our smiles could push the clouds away
We had no fear of what would come tomorrow
We welcomed it with fire in our eyes
We drank deep from sweet, sweet wine
while the stars moved above our heads
And we lived as if the moment’
would never end
We laughed beneath the winder moon
and loved beneath the summer sky
the world was ours back
when we were young
When we were young, the world spread out before us
it was all ours to take
We raised our heads looking for tomorrow
The world was our back when we were young
When we were young

This song evokes my own reminiscing and imaginations of my childhood and youth. I grew up in the Philippines, and whichever country or planet we grew up in, these lyrics will universally apply. It could very well have been sung by the band Chicago or John Denver. This has elements of a catchy pop/rock/country tune, and I can really feel the yearning and sentimentality in your voice. A great addition to your impressive song compilation, Joe!
