Bach Bach Black Sheep

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
Simple intro/outro music, to accompany a video of sheep being sheared out on a small farm in Descanso, California, April, 2009. I took the old children's song "Bah bah, black sheep, have you any wool..." and rewrote it as a simple canon for piano, clarinet, flute, and celesta... giving it a baroque air... and decided to call it "Bach Bach Black Sheep". This second version of the music is ever-so-slightly embellished from the original music in the video. I hope you enjoy this, and more importantly, the video!

After the annual shearing, the raw wool is collected in bags, and if the quality is good enough, it is washed and dyed and spun into wool, for making socks, sweaters, etc. One small fleece can probably make about 10 pairs of socks, or one sweater.

Baaadass Canon!
Very sweet; never baaanal, or baaaaaaaaaaaaaafling. Sheep shearing is a lot of fun. I always include it as one of the festivities in the riotous baaaacchanaaaaaaaalia I put on every weekend at my raaaaaaaaanch. Or, more precisely, if I had a ranch, and if I drank, then for sure I would have sheep-sheering parties on a regular basis. For sure.

Well, okay, maybe not... But cool video and nice music!

PS: Did you consider working in the tune to "My Dog Has Fleece" somewhere in your canon? Perhaps in augmentation, possibly in sub-audio frequencies?

Very nice rendition of a classic! Very interesting video, too. I enjoyed watching it!

It's kind of like "beauty parlor day" for the sheep- they get their hair and nails done :P

As soon as the video started...
...I began counting the sheep and immediately fell asleep. :)

The music is delightful and works so well with the video. And the way the guy shears the sheep, I think he might be my barber...

Ah, more sheep. One sheep, two sheep, three.... sheep.... zzzzzzzzzzz....

Right
now let me get this straight, you have a simple cannon from which you can fire a piano,a clarinet,a flute, and somebody called Celeste. Then you ask a sheep to do some BaahRock and then you film it all.Well it's shear lunacy and you say that I am baaching mad.Good tune tho'.

Bach Invention Invention?
All of Bach's tunes provide a rich soundscape for improvisation, but this is the most creative use of one I've heard yet!

Fav'd.

Cheers,
Jim

Canonical inventiveness
You're one baaadass composer. I think you should take this on the road to Baaaach's homeland with a small ensemble. Maybe tour Baaaaaaaden Baaaaaaden and Baaaaaaaad Rapenau and of course the entire land of Baaaaaaaavaria.

And was that your signature clarinet I heard in there?

Well, as the Terminator said,
I'll be baaaaaaach.

TTFN, and good show! :o)

Awww how pertty...
You can hear the softness of the wool which probably isn't soft yet... Now did you happen to send a copy of this to the sheep terrerist? I don't care how many times this is done too them, I don't see that the sheep feel as though this is a picnic, but I might be projecting! If somebody came at my nappy little nest like that, I'd probably grow bigger teeth! Guess I don't need to worry... Is that sheep doo I'm smelling?... It's like you're right there! Interesting! Never seen this happen before. I also didn't know what a celesta was or, what one sounded like before now, Eduard! Very edumacational! I always, ALWAYS learn something when I visit you! Thank you! That's a good thing! Nicely arranged/produced/performed piece of music AND video, too! Impressive! Very sweet and PRO sound! Thank you, Sir! Now, if you'd just stop snubbing me, we'd be more gooder... ; ) Dion

reminds me of our
childhood sheep shearing days....only I enjoyed your music and video much more than our ba-hing sheep! As a child I found myself running away as I thought the sheep were being hurt...funny now as and adult I looked away thinking the same thing!! Thanks for bringing a bit of the farm days back for me, great place to grow up.... Your talent and perfection of the production is truly a classic childhood tune complimenting and adult occupation! very well done..excellent I might say...
thanks for sharing your gifts Eduard, I will check out more of your creations...
