Description

I always loved this song from the first time I heard it in the Coffee House thing. It really said so much to me, and I always thought one day I’d take a hack at it. Sorry Feter, today I hacked at it. I hacked the vocals, the bass and the vibraslap. Thursday night I have singing lessons scheduled. My dear wife bought them for me as a Christmas present. You can tell how much I love to sing, as it’s been 6 months and she finally made the appointment seeing that I wouldn’t embarrass myself by calling the teacher. I’ll try to document the progress. 4 lessons each Thursday after work. If I sound excited, it’s because I didn’t notice the caps lock was on.... If someone would’ve just offered to sing one of my songs in the last 4 years this would’ve never happened. Thanks MacJams.

Electro Feter
To me, 2 layers of bad vocals sounds better than one puny vocal track with bad effects, so, that's what I tend to do. Then I bury them beneath as much noise as possible. 2 layers of lead/rhythm bass with the RATT pedal, a clean bassline with a slight flange and a couple of fuzzy wah wah clav tracks to satisfy my synthetic needs.

Be Careful
with singing lessons. Your voice as it is takes your songs to the next level. I'm just scared they're going to make you sound like that dillhole from Nickelback.

Would Not Imagine
Thanks Harold. It's the only way I could approach his tune if I wanted to be honest. The very few covers I've done in my life kinda start out as a tongue in cheek approach, but once I do that, I get past that initial stage, I go back and try to fix what I completely ruined. The result is a version that I'm not ashamed to share with it's author!

Singing Lessons
My teacher is just the greatest teacher you ever wanna meet, so I am actually enjoying it. I've compared my expectations to those of my 1978 VW Bus - There's no AC, but if you roll down the windows in the summer, it's much more bearable. If you change the oil regularly, it'll run better. I think it's gonna help me run better and be more comfortable in the summer.

I guess you know -
Strong Modest Mouse sound here, I always kind of admired the guy's style - I couldn't do it. Kind of a Jane's Addiction sound too, or a band from Australia you probably have not heard called "RatCat". If you like Surf/Punk you should really check out RatCat. I'll send you a link to quicken the search for you if I can find one. I had a buddy from Australia and he turned me on to RatCat, and you know, it's always fun to share.

As for the vocal lessons, no reason you shouldn't keep at it! I'd def like to hear more from you on the mic. Song is short but cool. The instrumentation is wild (good).
