My Heart Is Beating (update#1)

Description
Revision, corrected pitchy vocals in chorus and some notes in the vibes solo. Also brought the bongos closer to centre.
Have had Garageband for about a month and this is my first completed tune. This has been as much a learning process as a creative one. Still lots to learn about DAWs. I play bass and guitar, the rest is loops and samples. Need a drum program and a midi keyboard, this moving notes around on the screen sucks but it is teaching me lots. The words and vocal melody are inconsequential since the sample Fynn only responds to razor blades (digital editing), wish I could sing. This experience might make me brave enough to try.

Revision/Update
Don't know if I did this updating thing correctly. I thought it would replace the old version but I guess not. Do I have to delete the old one first?

Hey CB
You cannot replace, only re-post. It's something we've all had to learn to live with...

Not my voice
I wish it was. The vocal is an Apple loop, the sample is called Fynn. The only way I can make Fynn sing in pitch is to get out the razor blade ;-)

It Might be the vibes
Thanks for the listen Terraplane. That point in the song gets a bit crowded with rhodes and vibraphone, very similar tonality. The end of the vibes solo gets muddy because of this and increasing the velocity doesn't seem to help. Tried cleaning it up by cutting the reverb, helped a bit but not enough. Haven't done any auto leveling or mastering yet but when I get all the timing and pitch problems fixed I will try mastering. That might smooth out the track and give each instrument a space.

This song almost pins the cheese meter for me and at first was going to discard it. I changed my mind when I decided to give in to my Love Boat/Lounge/Muzac tendencies and go with it. Trying to make it as sweet, smooth and edgeless as possible without making myself laugh or puke.

Nice first cut...
watch those razor blades though... sounds great now, you're "in like Fynn!" I don't hear the Frankenstein seams, so you are very good at re-pitching and splicing. The music bed is jazzy and enjoyable... excellent work melting all those loops together... and the bass-line and guitar work are a delight, as I mentioned in the prior defunct (de-funked?) music version. Welcome, again!

Good humor Drak
I am old enough to remember editing with real blades and tape. This digital stuff is so easy in comparison but there is so much more to learn.

This community is certainly warm and inviting, you have made an old man feel at home, thank you.

My Heart is Beating
nice job Mr. Bake! One of the great things about MJ is you can meet some awesome vocalists to sing on your tunes - i have a feeling it won't be long before that's happening with you. Terrific mix here, you obviously know what you're doing, and i look forward to lots more music from you. Welcome to the fray!

great beginning
I believe commented on your other post... saying something about how great the people are here and that there are a limited number of curmudgeons. Enjoy yourself.. somehow I think you will! Beware of dragons. They are good to have around though because they eat the trolls.

Thanks for all the comments
I'm up for any criticism so don't hold back, my ego can take it, no it can't, YES IT CAN. I loved your Scofield tribute Ibstrat. I did a Hendrix one but had to delete it as it was a cover.

WONDERful
Very tight percussion, and great dynamics.
Very cool vibe loop, the horns were louder then the vocals at times.
Love that sound of your Jazz Bass too.
Reminiscent of Steve Wonder!
Your vocals are very clean.

Michael Jackson meets Steely Dan
This is unbelievable!! Your chops are incredible. Love your bass feel. I think your voice is very good here. Would have liked to have heard it a bit more arranged including completed vocals, verses, chorus, bridge etc. Look forward to listening to your other stuff. Cheers

I wish
it was my voice but those vocals are samples from the Voices Jam Pack and that is the reason there are so few lyrics or melodic variation. One day maybe a real singer will give it a go.
