Description

Ok. SO I grabbed the original tracks off my Micro BR and then managed to export the drum track out by recording it to a blank virtual track.
I've then assembled the 5 tracks in GB '09, adding some compression, reverb and EQ to the tracks individually and then using one of the master track presets given it a brighter overall feel.

I think I'm going to take Relic67's advice and leave this as it is: a rough little slice of indie

hey dude you know as I listen to your tunes I've heard you often find a "sound" you like and try to mimic it - the stadium, U2 type stuff, the Tweedy stuff, the J&MC style stuff, but it seems to me with this one that you're combining everything into your own style and it sounds great. Good example of that here is the J&MC style solo that blows right into an Edge type solo which then dissolves into a more J. Mascis type thing. Very cool. Same could be said for your singing style - from a combination of all those other styles you've emerged with a cool smokey indie kind of vocal style that I can see really coming into its own in future tunes. You're on the move and I dig the direction.

also love that "what it feels like outside of us" line, very witty.

On the move
... cheers Craig. I kinda felt that new direction as this came together. I wish I could say it was a painstaking process but it all kinda happened in 30 minutes. The solo came about as a conscious decision to move away from my one string J&MC solos.
I've resisted the temptation to do much to this. I was anticipating putting an acoustic in, doubling the rhythm guitar, backing vox etc but I kinda love this song as it is now. It represents that kinda pure garage band 4 track ethos that I have tended to overlook since discovering Logic.

I listened to the scratch track version yesterday and was really envious of your rich guitar sound from the first chord.

I hear what Craig is saying about your sound coming into it's own. He's right. And good for you for taking Relic's advise as well.

It's good to see we all listen with the same ears.

And by the way, this is my favorite of your vocal performances. Really dynamite.

	Live.... ... Mark yeah the sound is kinda live. The main reason behind this is that I played the entire song, rather than segments as I do with my GB and Logic compositions. Fave aspect: guitar blend
Love thelittle bit of "sandpaper" you leave in your guitar here; no need to use fine steel wool on it... some things shine better without too much polish. My preference in the mix would be to lower the drums by a couple/few DBs to make the guitar-vox combo a little more prominent. But that's a minor point. I have to compliment you on mixing-in the lead solo, a very sweet and in-the-pocket steel blend to take us out.

Sandpaper...
... I love that analogy - sandpaper/steel wool. I'll never be a producer as I haven't the patience to apply polish in layers. I'm more of a "that'll do the job" guy. On this occasion it seems to have worked out for the best.
I see your point on the drums, but I'm a sucker for big crashing rhythm.
Glad you liked the lead. It's the one aspect I spent time on getting just right in production terms.

	The One! Compliments from the writer of "The One" always gratefully accepted. It's a new guitar Guy, not the old strat with the bad intonation. This is the lovely Ibanez I got at Christmas. Wasn't even trying...
... you know when I TRIED to do Dinosaur Jr. it didn't work! Now with this it seems people are getting that vibe, probably 'cos I had no intention and just put out what I was feeling.
I won't be touching this for sure. I think it stands as my most complete to date. Funny as it's had barely any "production" at all.

	Simplicity... ... well for me simplicity is a necessity as I'm untrained and have only the most basic of guitar and production skills. The lyrics came in about 5 minutes, which is usual for me.
