Nobody Knows (acoustic) w/michael2

Description
This is a stripped down version of a collab I did with michael a while back. I'm posting this again for two reasons - to better showcase michael's brilliant additions (listen to those awesome BG vox!), and because I'm having trouble writing and recording anything new worth posting.
Everything's pretty much the same in this version, minus the heavy thundering electrics, so I'm calling this 'acoustic' ;)

Ridd - Music/Lyrics/Vocals, Acoustic & Electric
Michael - Piano, Synth, BG Vocals

Original version - http://www.macjams.com/song/44833

Lyrics
Nobody knows all the colors I've seen
Nobody knows all the places I've been
Nobody understands just what I mean
So I will explain it to you

Pack your bags we leave tommorrow
And say goodbye to all your friends
Cuz I will take you to a new home
Where the daylight never ends

But when you're there, you're there forever
You can never come back here
I'll be standing right beside you
And we will live a thousand years

Nobody knows all the colors I've seen
Nobody's been to the places I've been
Nobody understands just what I mean
So I will explain it to you

So what's with all the hesitation?
Why can't you make up your mind?
You need a place where you can be yourself
And you can leave your past behind

So leave it all and float away with me
Gravity won't stop us now
There's too many things I want you to see
So we won't let them slow us down

Last night I dreamed of you
A hundred flowers in your hair
And when I turned around to look for you
You weren't there

Nobody knows all the colors I've seen
And nobody's been to the places I've been
Nobody understands just what I mean
So I will explain it to you

thievery...
nothing more rock and roll than pronouncing "been" with a long e lol. man the r&b/liverpool lead guitar on the first verse is perfect, and the backup synth on the second verse is perfect, and the mixed vox on the chorus is perfect. you guys are solidly pro and i feel like i'm stealing downloading this for free. Thanks!

yeah I definitely flipped on my brit rocker switch for this one in places. I was afraid it was going to come off as too contrived, like early bono. Anyway, stoked you dug and downloaded

the colors I've seen
at multiple points in this great tune I was spellbound by something "smaller" in the mix. A run of a bass line, a guitar voicing, a synth cameo and of course all the outstanding vocal parts. Really exceptional guys.

thanks for noticing the subtle stuff. I think we both put a lot of little touches in this that may have gotten buried in the 'bigger' mix, though I love that one just as much. Thanks for the review!

Sweet tune
Glad you showed a map of my old home.

M2 and Ridd, really love this version. This sounds like something that I can't put my finger on. Vocal driven song-very hard to do. I could see lighters waving in the air as you close a show with this. Followed by a ripping encore of course.

Outstanding

You lived in Utopia?? Awesome. Glad you like this version, Dave. Like I said I'm always hesitant to repost stuff, but this one deserved a mix that really showcased michael's more subtle additions - though I LOVE the slide work he did too in the original version.

Lovely vocal on this (lead and backing!) and the melody is really sweet. Nice lyrics and I think the acoustic approach works very well on this. Outstanding stuff. Nicely done, gents. Peace.

don't tell anyone but I (unintentionally) ripped off a cartoon's theme song melody for the chorus. oops! Oh well, it happens!

This sounds like
something the Beatles might have done with the Gallahger brothers as co writers. Great song guy's, both of your music inspires me, and to have something with both your influence is truly a gift. So Ridd and Michael Thank You both.
Peace

interesting take - you're probably right - Beatles, Oasis, and maybe The Flaming Lips jamming together. It's extremely cool that this inspires you, Guy. Thanks for mentioning that, and thank-you for listening!

Glad you like it, man. I posted it partly for the same reason - having a hard time finishing songs. I too found it inspiring to listen to it like this as well. Also listened to a ton of Sparklehorse this morning and I've got some ideas for our next collab.

What a beautiful song and Michael certainly added to it's specialness.
The lyrics do promise the world to this young lady, no wonder she hesitates, can you be believed??

SJB said 142 days ago (June 18th, 2009)
wonderful
I love this sound. The tune is about as catchy as it can get and the bass sounds great on my headphones. There's lots of interesting things going on in there - the big drum hits at about 4.00 lead into the ending really well.
all the best to you
