Windchime Experiment

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
i haven't posted anything in forever so here is this as an open collab. it's kind of ambient/downtempo. i recorded everything in the waiting room while doing jury duty, and then mixed it last night in my hotel room (i'm out of town for work). originally i had put in an accappella from another MJer, but as they are working on an album i dropped those vox and left it as an instrumental. this is a lot of experimentation with effects, much of it is a sample of some windchimes that I manipulated. not really a "catchy song" but hope someone will do something interesting with it.

I think maybe...
this might fit right on top of my "window Unit" song. Take out my drums, work it..

Mind if I play with it?

jury duty waiting room
man, the last place I think I could feel creative and then I hear this. Pretty cool Michael. There's tons of possibilities here. Did you just use the pin hole mic on the macbook?. d/l'd for future fiddling :-)

hey
Vic, thanks for listening. actually a lot of the synths were just basic saw waves. i was seeing how much I could alter the sounds by automating effects rather than the synths themselves. you can get a lot out a phaser apparently.

ok well first of all
song art is FABULOUS!! secondly, an upload from parichayaka AND michael2 in the same day - does life get much better than this? thirdly, WOWZA Mr. Michael2 - this has cool written all over it, and the fact that you conceived this while waiting to get paneled on a jury somehow makes this even COOLER! the windchimes are so cool, and i have no doubt that within 24 hours there will be all kinds of developed versions of this that will be a treat for the ears. so great to see you here michael - very cool upload - thanks!

thanks
karen. this was mostly an experiment. it's pretty cool what you can do to manipulate sound. jury duty is always sooo boring I make sure that I have some way to pass the time. thank goodness for laptops.

Intriguing
This is really cool. Love the sounds. I have no idea how you do this! What a really cool vibe comes off this. As it is, it sounds cool to me, but when you mention doing something to it, it becomes even more intriguing. Lots of possibilities. Very cool. Nicely done. Peace.

too cool for school
great atmosphere and super dimensional mix. I hear some noise reduction artifacts sounding very tribbley (that a word?). Nice use of voices and bringing the beat in is a gift to anyone taking on the collab. Excellent post for reentry.

Jeepers creepers
Oh, man. That first two minutes makes me want to hide under the covers. Good to hear that someone can get away with posting scary music -- and so well done. When the drums came in, I says to myself, "Well, so much for that." But I was wrong. That part is TOTALLY cool, also. Really loved it. What is that sound at 1:24? Shiver.

flashback to childhood
Cool track. Almost like a dreamback dream, back to some pleasant childhood good time at park with friends, or with a Dad that is no longer with you.

Good on it's own, but the possibilities are there for more layers of creative juices to bake in this ethereal lasagna.

hey! what?
I was looking around, trying to find out who was talking! Mix of voices, effects and wind chimes is perfectly balanced. Slightly scary, but not too intense or indulging in anything darker or dissonant - which I sometimes can't appreciate in other ambient tracks I've listened to. Rhythm also blends perfectly. Very evocative.

My guess is you didn't get picked for the Jury
And that's a good thing. It let you go back to the motel and make this amazing bit of music. Very intriguing Michael. Wonderful sound scape with tremendous possibilities. Someone will pick this up and run with it, for sure

Wow, Michael
I'm glad you decided to experiment. This is quite cool. This needs to be in a movie soundtrack or some story. I look forward to seeing what others do with this, not that it needs anything else.

Works for me as is
This is tres cool. It's kind of like coming in and out of consciousness between a daydream and a public space - never quite surrendering to either one. It will be interesting to hear where this goes.

Great start
Love the build up to the drums. Very interesting sounds and cool vocal samples you throw in there. Very cool experiment. I think it would have worked better without the drums, however its still a good track.

don't really feel the need
for additions to this, and when you say it isn't 'catchy' i can't agree - not as far as my taste is concerned! it's a haunting ambient track, so well put together, perfectly mixed, and with attractive sounds. but i bet many will find inspiration to add ;)
